On the banks of the North Fork River, behind Gary's lodge is a new blank factory in Woodland, WA properly named North Fork Composites Inc., Trey Kistler and Gary Loomis (not G.Loomis) worked together again to find an answer to the need for high performance fishing rods at a value unheard of in the industry today. After pots of coffee and cokes, Trey and Gary worked together to design a rod blank that matches unparalleled sensitivity, lightness and strength. Out of Gary's North Fork Composites production comes a blank that has Kistler's signature 'raw carbon' look that provides the sensitivity you've come to equate with the Kistler name. And because it is made here in America you know it's going to be a dependable rod for years.

With the foundation of Gary's Next Generation IM Intermediate Modulus blank, adding top quality components and Kistler innovations make the KLX a rod that has to be experienced to be believed. And of course it is built right here in the good ol' USA by Kistler's certified rod technicians.

When you look at your new KLX rod you will immediately notice very little fanfare in the way of fancy colored wraps, or paid endorsements signed on the shaft. Instead, the American Flag, and the very best rod we could possibly build for the money.

Pride in building the very best for our customers. It's the foundation of the Kistler values. So you can say - ..'Fishing NEVER Felt SO Good!'

I was looking for a great all-around rod designed for jig fishing as well as flipping and pitching creature baits around cover, and this rod fits the bill perfectly! As soon as I held this rod in my hand, I knew it was going to be a lot of fun fishing it, and it is the most comfortable rod I own! The sensitivity is unmatched, and being able to feel the smallest of bumps has really upped my performance when out on the water. I look forward to fishing this rod for a long, long time! Let me start by saying Wow, just wow. This is the nicest rod I have ever put in my hand, the components, the blank, and even to the wrappings and epoxy. This rod is spot on in everything. I was a little hesitant to get a mod-fast rod because most of the rods I used were fast or extra fast action, the mod-fast action gives this rod a ton of tip so you can walk a frog with ease. but when you set the hook its backbone. I set the hook on a three pound bass from about 7 feet from the bank and the fish came with the hookset. such a nice rod. Keep it up Trey (Posted on 1/4/17)

I use this rod primarily for hollow body frog fishing and man is it awesome. Plenty of backbone and tip to launch that frog. Also makes for a awesome jig pitching rod! Super lightweight for less fatigue.... (Posted on 1/2/17)

  4. The best jig rod I've ever used Review by Joseph

This rod does it all when it comes to shallow water jig fishing! It skips jig well, makes pitching a breeze and I've even done some light punching with it. This rod excels in all aspects, but to me the aspect that is most impressive is that you simply do not lose fish on this rod. The heavy-moderate action allows you plenty of power to rip a fish out of cover but the moderate action allows the rod to keep consistent pressure on the fish not allowing it to get any slack and working the hook free! I own 4 of these and find that this by far is my favorite rod! (Posted on 1/2/17)

AWESOME Rod! I've only had this rod a few weeks but it is probably my favorite to this point. I have been VERY happy with all of my Kistler Rods which I just started switching over to the year but this one like I said is my favorite. The Moderate action loads up beautifully when setting the hooks of a KVD Sexy frog. I like a rod with good backbone but not like a broom stick. This rod fits the bill. Get one and see for yourself. I can't wait to use it for Jigs but when the frog bite is on I can't use anything else. (Posted on 11/7/16)

This is by far my favorite rod that I have ever had the pleasure of owning! This thing rocks my socks off! I use this as my worm/jig rod. I was worried about using a heavy vs. a MH but at first, plus the rod tip wasn't as fast as I thought I needed. You could say I was a bit worried but I gave it a shot and WOW!!! This things got it all unmatched sensitivity (Bluegill bites feel like a 5lber smashing it), the ability to bomb long casts (10-15 yards farther than my previous MH jig rod), and lots of backbone to get those fish out! Please do yourself a favor and if you need a new jig/worm rod, pick this up and save yourself the trouble.

Just received it today, was on the water with it 2 hours later, and I'm speechless. This is my first Kistler rod, but it definitely won't be the last. It's crazy light and has plenty of backbone for pulling fish from the thick stuff. Just threw frogs with it, but it will also be good for many other techniques. Ripped some bass out of the thick slop with ease. Can't wait to pitch some jigs with it. If you're reading reviews to gauge if you should buy this rod, save yourself some time and just buy it. It's a quality product that's made in the U.S., doesn't get much better than that. Keep up the good work Kistler! (Posted on 8/24/16)

I purchased this rod at the end of 2015 with the intention to use it as my main jig rod. I am happy to say that it has become a permanent part of my arsenal and has caught quite a few fish so far in just a short time. I admit, I was never a good jig fisherman...but having a quality set up like this gives you a lot more confidence once you start putting fish in the boat. 3/8 - 3/4 oz jigs have really done well on this rod which is what I tend to fish 90% of the time. Get this rod...it will make you a more confident jig fisherman at any experience level! (Posted on 4/4/16)

My buddy let me borrow his rod while fishing a tournament recently and WOW is all I can say! I felt everything and had no issues skipping, pitching or casting this well balanced machine with a jig on it.
Boated several fish including a 20lb catfish from under a dock! I'm frugal fisherman but am hooked on Kistler rods now. (Posted on 3/27/16)

I recently purchased a KLXFJCW73H for some flipping/frog fishing. I was a little disappointed when it came, the tip was broken. I sent an email to Kistler on the weekend. Trey got back to me first thing Monday and I had a new rod on the way immediately and return shipping paid for on the broken rod. Great customer service!!! I received the new rod and was surprised by how light it was. I did not expect the KLX to be as light as it is. After some practice on my local lake, I am happy to say that this rod is light, sensitive, and comfortable to fish with all day. Great rod!!! Thanks Trey! (Posted on 12/15/15)

My first Kistler and I am very impressed. Got to use it today for the first time and it was great. Flipping a 1/2 ounce Texas rigged creature for several hours and never got tired its nice pitching with such a lite rod. Caught one nice one over 5 and had no problem pulling it out of the bushes. Great rod. (Posted on 11/25/15)

Added 2 more of these to my Kistler collection. I found with my first frog rod the tip helps propel the hollow body or buzz frog a mile.
The power on the hook set drives the hooks and provides the power to hoss em out.
The weight and balance makes it the perfect tool for an all day trip.
I use this rod for skipping docks and the tip is perfect for that.
Can't go wrong with this one!! (Posted on 11/22/15)

I purchased two of these rods and three of the carbon steels over the past three months. I am an avid weekend tournament angler, since I've switched to Kistler rods I've cut a check seven tournaments in a row and have won the last two! I owe my success to the sensitivity, durably and comfort the rods provide. Great product, keep up the good work Kistler. (Posted on 6/9/15)

First off, I must say this is the first Kistler I have ever purchased.....it will not be the last! What a great rod for the price. Super sensitive and I love how light it feels . Have it paired with a Shimano Aldebaran and it's an amazing combo. Fishing mostly Carolina rigs, heavy jigs and even a 6 inch Huddleston and it has performed flawlessly! Spoke with Trey before ordering and he answered all my questions. Not only is the rod amazing, but because Trey took time out of his day to help me choose the right rod for what I needed, I will be purchasing more. Thanks Kistler! (Posted on 4/21/15)

This rod doesn't mess around! If you need a rod with some muscle that can handle the thick cover, lift the bottom out of the lake, but is still light and super sensitive, then this is your rod. I primarily use this rod for frogging and flipping. (Posted on 4/21/15)

I love this rod. It's extremely light and balanced. The craftsmenship put into this rod is amazing. I've been using this to drag football jigs around heavy cover. The sensitivity is amazing. I can feel the difference in the bottom compostion of the lake and that's key when tryin to find those key areas that are holding those big bass. I fish in Texas and this rod has no problem handiling the biggest of bass around heavy cover and putting fish in the boat. Keep up the great work Kistler. (Posted on 12/29/14)

If you are looking for a rod to punch grass but don't want to carry around the big stick, then look no further. This rod will do it all. It has the backbone to pull 4lb+ bass out of the junk with ease. My favorite feature is how light this thing is. In the past we have had to lug around pool cues to flip the mats, not anymore. Also the micro guides that let your line travel with ease to flip even the tightest quarters. Make a great frog rod too. (Posted on 12/16/14)

I have been using this rod for about six months now. It is a great combo of light weight, crisp feel and power. All the KLX rods have great versatility, so you will find many uses for it. For me, this rod is my go-to for hollow body frogs, 1/2-1oz football jigs and most flipping with up to 3/4oz tungsten or jigs. Again, it is versatile and you will find many uses, but it excels at these applications where setting the hook and moving the fish are key. Great stick, I will end up getting one or two more in the future because they have so many uses. The KLX series is top quality and anyone looking to get one will not regret it. (Posted on 12/12/14)

  33. Biffle HardHead users....Read this Review by russ warner

I've had this stick for about 7 months now and let me tell you....If you like to throw the Hardhead this is the rod to do it on. I've been using this bait for several years now and has become my GO TO when I need fish. I use it primarily for the 7/16 and 11/16 heads and you can chunk them a mile. They're extremely sensitive on those long casts which is really important when you're fishing rockpiles to determine a bite from a rock. The action is perfect, I don't like a fast action because it doesn't allow the fish to fully engulf the bait, so the mod-fast action of this stick is perfect. On the other hand it's got the backbone when you do jack their jaws. For the lighter 5/16 or less I like the KLX Texas/Carolina Rig Worm Jig Medium-Heavy 7' Fishing Rod. Hope this review helps you choose the right rod for your situation. (Posted on 1/17/14)

  34. Awesome rod! Review by BJ

I bought this rod to fish in slop and it preforms great in the grass, reeds and pads. I also just used this rod at Sam Rayburn to rip a 3/4 oz Rat L Traps in the grass. I never lost a fish on the trap and that impressed me being a Heavy rod. I recommend all the KLX rods to anyone looking for their next favorite rod! (Posted on 1/17/14)
