On the banks of the North Fork River, behind Gary's lodge is a new blank factory in Woodland, WA properly named North Fork Composites Inc., Trey Kistler and Gary Loomis (not G.Loomis) worked together again to find an answer to the need for high performance fishing rods at a value unheard of in the industry today. After pots of coffee and cokes, Trey and Gary worked together to design a rod blank that matches unparalleled sensitivity, lightness and strength. Out of Gary's North Fork Composites production comes a blank that has Kistler's signature 'raw carbon' look that provides the sensitivity you've come to equate with the Kistler name. And because it is made here in America you know it's going to be a dependable rod for years.

With the foundation of Gary's Next Generation IM Intermediate Modulus blank, adding top quality components and Kistler innovations make the KLX a rod that has to be experienced to be believed. And of course it is built right here in the good ol' USA by Kistler's certified rod technicians.

When you look at your new KLX rod you will immediately notice very little fanfare in the way of fancy colored wraps, or paid endorsements signed on the shaft. Instead, the American Flag, and the very best rod we could possibly build for the money.

Pride in building the very best for our customers. It's the foundation of the Kistler values. So you can say - ..'Fishing NEVER Felt SO Good!'

  1. Bad Boy Meat Stick Review by JDPORT

This is a awesome rod for dragging the fish out of hell. Ill do pros and cons on this review THE PROS: I punched some trees with 25LB fluorocarbon and caught a 7.14 largemouth and boat flipped it like it was nothing. It can launch a hollow body frog a mile on 65lb braid I have caught several big frog fish on it and have yet to have a fish come off. If your looking for a meat stick to throw Alabama rigs, frogs and punching thick wood and matted veg this is a awesome all purpose meat stick.THE CONS: I bought this rod to replace my old Kistler 7'6 heavy California sires rod after 12 years of service it finally broke. its a bit heavier weight wise then you would expect it does not work well on football jigs or any type of deep structure fishing I have lost several fish on it because I think my hook set's made large holes in their lips and they are able to shake out the bait. Its not very comfortable for flipping down a bank of open water. (Posted on 6/14/17)

I love flipping thick grass mats and this is the absolute best rod I have ever used for doing such. Over the years I have used a number of other brands and could not find the right combination between feel, backbone, and weight. I have found it. I purchased one to begin with and now I have two. I have found out that this rod is good for flipping bushes and isolated wood just as well as grass. This is the dream rod for all flippers. (Posted on 5/11/17)

Best rod for getting big fish out of heavy cover period! By far the best punching rod on the market. (Posted on 5/9/17)

Buddy of mine let me borrow this rod last year for a tournament and it was perfect. The lake had lily pad mats and thick vegetation. I was able to punch with a 1.25oz tungsten weight for the entire duration of the tournament. I hauled in quite a few bass and some bonus 30+ inch pike through the mats. The stumpgrinder is one bada** rod. KLX rods are great looking rods and pretty versatile. I am going to use this rod for frogs and heavy jigs for the upcoming season. (Posted on 5/9/17)

  5. Excellent rod for punching from the kayak! Review by Alan

I finally had the opportunity to give this rod a work out with a punching session out of the kayak up in Wisconsin. I was punching denser pad fields in search of fish since it was a slow day to begin with. The light switch turned on and the bass were fired up for the next hour. This rod has a ton of power behind it and was just the right length to get a good hookset and put some leverage on them once they bit. Had a buddy try it out as well and he was very impressive with how it fished. Almost couldn't get it back from him! haha. If you guys are serious about learning how to punch, especially from the confined spaces of a kayak, this is the rod to get! (Posted on 9/13/16)

Wow! What a great rod! I got this rod for punching/flipping grass. Very light and sensitive yet strong enough to pull them out of the heaviest mats. I have experimented with numerous flipping rods and this by far the best. (Posted on 2/24/16)

Rod is extremely light and sensitive for its size. I use it for punching mats mostly but also can be used to chuck a-rigs.

Have had this rod for a while and thought it was time to write a review on it--I think you will have to look a long time to find another rod that can be used for punching that matches this rod--I use it in Florida to punch mats and heavy lily pad fields and this rod is more than up to the task--just a great rod for that purpose-takes on all the challenges that Florida punching throws at it!--Thanks Kistler! I have fished this rod now for almost 2 years and I can say if you want to throw big jigs or big punching gear this is the rod for you. It’s a light and has great balance. The handle of this rod is great for setting against your forearm giving you great leverage for hook sets. (Posted on 3/25/15)

This rod is amazing. I use it to flip/pitch timber and hydrilla here in Texas. The rod is super sensitive and light for a extra heavy rod. When you go to set the hammer down on a bass you know there gonna stay pinned until you get them in the boat. Great work Kistler.

Spend a lot of time fishing The Delta out here in California and this rod performs great. Plenty of backbone for pulling those big ones out of the real heavy stuff and still has that great sensitivity to feel the lightest of bites. (Posted on 1/10/15)

  14. Perfect for punching Review by Robin

I got this rod to use especially for a punching setup and it it a perfect solution. It is lighter and more sensitive than expected for an extra heavy rod. I think the KLX rods are underrated as work horse rods and are a great value. They are light, sensitive and have a great feel. If it weren't for Helium 3s I'd have all KLXs in the rod locker!
