Made in the USA! Kistler Rods Z Bone Rod Series features 5 different fishing rod powers that cover almost every fishing application and fishing technique, especially bass fishing.  Huge advancements in technology have helped the new Z Bone Rod Series to become 25% more sensitive, 25% lighter, 25% higher modulus, 25% more powerful, and 25% more durable.  This is the premiere fishing rod series that competitive tournament fishermen and serious recreational fishermen will instantly love and appreciate.

The brand new, first of its kind, North Fork Composite LMX X-Ray Blanks are the structural foundation for the 2019 Z Bone fishing rods. It touts the highest strain to modulus ever created in a fishing rod, which means there is no other rod blank today that has the strength-to-weight ratio with increased sensitivity.  These three primary rod characteristics shine as a result of North Fork Composite and Trey Kistler innovation!

All of these new features and the improved fishing rod performance create a truly balanced, lighter weight, more sensitive rod that simply will not let you down when you set the hook hard on a big fish in heavy cover. It also means you can feel the slightest bite on a windy day with finesse fishing tactics on slack line.

North Fork Composites and Kistler Rods improved the blank’s action and stiffness by increasing the overall carbon fiber count, which increases fishing rod sensitivity by 25% while it also decreases the overall weight by 25%.  This process creates a balanced, efficient, and highly effective fishing rod.

The Armor Resin that is used has a new generation hardener that makes the blank 25% more resistant to micro-fractures or bruise impacts from boat trolling motors, power poles, windshields, and more.

Z Bone blanks are never sanded. As a result the Z Bone Series boasts of a huge 25% increase in strength and durability.

The Z Bone Series features critical components that prove assistive for all fishermen.  For example, Fuji (the famous Japanese fishing rod component maker) recently developed the all-new Torzite Ring with titanium-framed guides, along with the Brand New Flanged Torzite/Titanium tip top.  Both noticeably reduce fishing line friction, which rewards fishermen with smooth, long cast and silky retrieves.  This, too, allows fishermen to accurately sense and feel a lure’s movement and action as well as when a fish bites.  Additionally, focusing on the mid-portion of the Z Bone Series fishing rods, we chose running guides with stainless steel corrosion control frames that provide the most durable frame that includes the latest Silicon Carbide Rings (15% lighter than the previous guides).  All of these innovative components help us to create what we call the “Kistler Dynamic Guide Train System” The perfect combination of the smoothest semi-macro or semi-conventional sized rings, lightest and strongest frames perfectly placed at the optimal placement on each graphite blank.

1ML, 2M, 3LMH and 4MH powers Macro sized (larger than micro yet smaller than conventional sized guides/tips to maximize performance for all line types and leader knots)

5H power rods have semi-conventional sized guides - best for larger leader knots.

Kistler's Z Bone Rod Series is widely recognized for its innovative, durable, and lightweight characteristics.  Every rod that leaves the Kistler Rods factory are thoroughly tested for any blemishes or manufacturer issues. We are so confident in the strength and quality of each and every Zbone, so they are covered by our 5-year VIP Warranty Protection Plan.

This is my first Z Bone to purchase, bought it to throw light Texas rigged soft plastics. I’m very impressed with the quality of the Z Bone and the sensitivity in it. Will be purchasing a few more soon.

I purchased my second z bone medium heavy rod this past season and it has performed equally admirably to my first one from a couple of months prior. This one at 7' 0" is two inches shorter than my first. Both handle easily and I use for pitching trees. It is a premium rod which is light and has a great balance of flex and backbone. The custom order process online is relatively easy but I still struggled with exactly I would be getting. Trey did a good job of helping me through this process. I will eventually get another z bone and have already ordered another Helium. (Posted on 1/27/18)

  3. Custom Z-bone LE 4 med-heavy Review by Paul

First z-bone, and first custom rod, but I have many Kistler rods. I have favored the "softer" tip in most of my Kistlers with the exception of my older magnesium frog rods. I recently purchased a newer Mag2 and could immediately tell the z-bone had a firmer tip as soon as I held it, more like my Helium.
It felt comfortable. The balance and look of the rod are attractive. I loved the Winn grip on the Mag2, and put it on my z-bone. The rod is light and powerful. I paired it with a daiwa steez limited SV 103H TN and they worked well together. I was able to use a 1/8 oz weight and pitch trees on Caddo Lake easily, and switch to heavier weights with no difference. The rod helped muscle in a couple of larger fish that went under the boat. I was surprised at the sensitivity. I appreciated the help I recieved over the phone when making my selection. They were knowledgeable and patient. The rod is top shelf. Kistler wanted, and appreciated my business. Price point is high but the quality is unquestionable. I will end up with another one.....then another...... (Posted on 5/27/17)

  4. So many uses for the 2M blank Review by Scott

This is my 2nd review in this section, but my newest rod deserves it's own review! The guys built a 7'3" 2M (Medium) with the 2-pc EVA foam grips and I can't say enough about what this rod can do. This blank excels with anything from 1/32oz (if you have the right reel) up to 1/4oz. I wouldn't be scared to throw up to 5/16 or 3/8 on it, but I prefer the 3H or 4H blanks for those weights. On those calm days where you can get away with light weight, or if heavy fishing pressure dictates a finesse presentation...this blank can and will handle almost anything you want to throw. Put a 3.5" paddle tail on a 1/8 or 1/4 jig head and go to work! If you're confident in your line, try 8-10lb flouro and I promise you will feel the bite a split second before impact. These rods are just crazy sensitive!! Everytime I get a new one...I fall in love all over again! (Posted on 5/1/17)

  5. I've had two custom built zbones so far Review by Michael

One is a 5H 7'8" flippin stick and the other 4H 7'4" pitchin rod. I chose the custom build option instead of in stock models because 1). I favor slightly shorter handles than stock rods then balance the lost weight with the balance kit; 2). I prefer EVA split grips and certain line guides, and I love the option of color selections for winding thread and the optional weight kit colors. I use a variety of the newest Revo low profile reels that are a variety of colors so we matched those colors on the Kistler builds. Now it looks like the rods and reels came from the same factory together. Beautiful rigs that anyone would be proud to fish (and display).

After a couple of years these custom rods have regrettably spent more time in the den rod rack than on the water. But when their number is called they amaze me all over again with their feather light weight, power, and sensitivity. These are the feelings that never go away with any zbones and these are set up just the way I like em. (Posted on 9/3/16)

  6. Amazing Review by Graham

First off, if you are looking for a truly custom rod, look no further. No matter what I requested, Trey was always there to make it happen. I wanted an exposed reel seat, done. Custom colored labels to match the threads, done. They know what they are doing. Sensitive as the day is long. It doesn't get better than a try one of a kind rod with a mind-blowing 5 year warranty. It may seem expensive, but my rod was worth every cent. (Posted on 7/10/16)

  7. Z-bone –7'6" Review by Randy

If you fish with a weightless Senkos or fluke, you need this rod. Serious. I have 3 now. I have caught so many big bass fishing these rods. I go out expecting to catch good bass (5 to 7 lbs. or more) so I use heavier line than many would think to use for weightless lures. I used to use 12 lb. line but I was losing too many big fish, so I prefer 15 lb fluorocarbon line or heavier. (Yes, you might get more bites with lighter line, but if they wrap up in the grass or around a dock piling, you'll regret it.) This 7'6" rod will throw a 5-inch Senko a long distance. You can really feel those subtle pick-ups because a lot of my big fish come while "dead-sticking" Senkos. Get a least one of these rods, you won't regret it. (Posted on 5/22/16)

I had the biggest smile when I pulled my new z-bone out of the pvc shipping tube. The rod is amazingly light, balanced and a beautiful sight to see. It is the most sensitive rod I've ever felt, even more so than my g-loomis nrx. When I called to order, Trey was very helpful in the design process and the customer service at Kistler Rods is second to none. Keep up the good work team Kistler and God Bless you all! 9. BYO Z Bone Review by Chris

This was my first custom ordered rod. I found it very easy to navigate the build your own site. What impressed me the most was how fast they completed my order. I placed the order Dec 18 and they shipped it Jan 4, considering Christmas and New Year holidays that was extremely fast for a custom build. The rod looked great, but due to weather I have not fished it yet. I am really looking forward to using it this spring! Awesome job by Trey and his staff. (Posted on 1/23/16)

  10. ST ALRS blank Review by Scott

I wasn't sure where to put this review, but I wanted to mention that if you do the custom build you can get this blank with a moderate action as opposed to XF like the standard Z-Bone blanks. It makes a fantastic rod for med-large swim baits. It makes a great deep crank rod too. Not to mention there's nothing like getting a rod just the way you want it!!! (Posted on 12/9/15)
