matching rod with reel

just received the HE70HC I ordered. Purchased a Curado 200DHSV 7:1 retrive.
I primarily fish the Big O, and the Kissimmee chain in the junk. my question is this the right pairing. I fish big spinners and the toad and I was having trouble getting the toad on top with a 5:3 on another high end rod.

That sounds like a good combo to me. The ratio will let you get the lure on top a lot faster and keep it there. That rod is an awesome rod for fishing in the jungle. I use the Magnesium Jig and Toad special for this technique and it works flawless. Good luck.

I like my Pflueger Presidents for that style. Excellent free spool for maximun casting distance. 6.3 retrieve ratio gets bait on top quick and keeps it there. Very good drag system, and it costs $60 less than the new Curado's. Works for me.
