3/23/06 6:40pm LTA Heavy? |
|
|
|
i ordered a 7'6'' Heavy Helium to use as a flippin stick. though i am fairly confident with my decision, i am wondering if i shoulda got an XxtraHeavy. ive heard that these rods arent as stiff as some others. i have a tourney this weekend and hope to get it tomorrow (2nd day air), if i use the rod and determine its not the action i need could i trade it in for the same priced rod(7'6''XH)? or the scary part (for my bankaccount) would be the fact that i fall in love with the rod(my first kistler) and straight up order another(which i will one day). also, how much does a magnesium compare to the helium of same size in weight? thanks alot tjames

personally i find that the heavy action was a little to lite for flipping. i use mainly 3/8 ounce to half ounce jigs. if you only use 1/4 ounce to 3/8 you will probaly be o.k., welcome to kistler i'm sure you will love your rod either way you go............you will have your rod in time for tournament and good luck!

dang, thats what ive been hearing. i will just have to see when it gets here. needless to say i know it will be a fantastic rod but i have ALOT of medium heavy rods and 0 heavys, so i kinda wanted something significantly heavier. im still really excited to get it though, never even held one. hopefully wont make my others feel to clumsy. i may try a magnesium next, maybe the 7'8'' stick. ill let yall know what i think

I liked the HE76HC so much I have 3 of them now. I don't know what type of cover you're throwing into but I've found it to be heavy enough for most anything I use it for except maybe matted grass. I use it exclusively for flippin' and pitchin' to buck brush, cypress stumps, lilly pads etc.... Welcome to Kistler!!!

I posted a couple of posts down about my experience. I broke a 7 ft heavy LTA. I sent it in and requested a 7'6" Heavy in return. The rod felt great! Probably one of the best I have ever had my hands on-BUT. I have been flipping matted grass with a 1 oz weight and really having to horse the fish out. I used the rod last Saturday and found it to be a little bit to limber for what I was doing. I would have to use both hands to get enough leverage to get the fish out and felt that I should have gone with the Extra heavy rod. I own 11 Kistlers with 10 being the LTA's. They are hand down the best rod I have ever owned. I sent the rod back 2 days ago and requested an extra heavy 7'6" LTA. My advice is to try it out and see what you think. For what I was doing the heavy action wasn't what I needed but the rod definiately has it's place in the rod box. I will get one here eventually. I just hope that the extra heavy rod feels as good in my hand as the Heavy did. You will probably end up keeping it-I almost did. Good Luck , Brad

I have both a 7/6 Heavy and Extra Heavy LTA Helium. I pitch 3/4 oz jigs with the Heavy with no problems but I don't have any grass to put up with. I use the Extra Heavy for jigs and lighter-in-weight swimbaits. Good luck and welcome to Kistler too.

I been using the 7'6 HC for about two months now on Arizona lakes for Flipping 1/2oz Jigs into Tullies with no problems landing fish. You made a good choice and even if it does not work for your style, you will find that this rod in excellent for throwing frogs around tullies.

yea i like it alot. it will be very versatile, more so than an extra heavy. looking to get a 7' medium or medium heavy for crankbaits next. medium heavy would probly be better, knowing heliums have a little softer action than other rods. what do yall think. dont usually throw anything deeper than 10-12 feet, unless its a DD22.
