So where does Kistler place the guides in relation to the spine on casting and spinning rods? Someone mentioned they thought it was backwards compared to standard practice. This question has been asked a couple of times... but got no response. I am curious.

We search for the more natural, softer spine of the sometimes two a blank offers. Then we place the guides on top of the spine on the casting models.
I hope this helps. Also, I wouldn't say that Kistler puts their rods an the spine backwards. I would maybe say Kistler does it their way and the Kistler family set the standard for building rods on the spine back when Castaway ( - - blocked - - ) so popular in the early 90's.
Our way works and works well.
Thanks for asking and I hope this helps answer your question,
