I am looking to join the Kistler family and was curious to know if there was a better rod for throwing a frog, in the hydrilla on Lake Guntersville, than the frog rod in the California series. I am looking for something with enough tip to make long cast and enough backbone to get them out of the grass and also handle 50# braid.

Thanks,
Rob Jones Smile

Hi Mark,

Over the last weekend, I was tossing a frog with my He76HC and let me tell you, this rod can cast the frog baits like nobody's business. It's a flipping stick, so I'm confident it has enough backbone to pull fish out of heavy cover, but I'm not sure about the 50# braid. I was using 20# braid myself. I didn't get any blowups though, so I don't have any real fish test results, just castability.

goodluck! Smile

Rob,

I would suggest going with the Frog Rod 7'3". It will handle just about any braided line you want to use. This rod does have the nice casting tip for those lighter frogs as well as the backbone to pull the big fish out.

You might want to consider not trying to pull the big fish out of the heavy cover but rather going in after it with the boat if possible. This will decrease the chances of ripping a hole in the fish's mouth.

Good Luck this summer and have fun on Guntersville,

Trey
