I just received a 6'6'' MH and put my Pflueger President reel on it. Problem I am having is no matter how hard I tighten it down it rocks on the rod from side to side. It makes it real annoying when I am fighting a fish. Is this common? Is there a reel that would fit better or is this a flaw in my rod? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have a couple Pfluger Patriarch reels on my Kistler rods, and have no play in the reel seat. I don't know if there is a difference between the President, and the Patriarch goes. Did you try the reels on other rods tho see if it was still loose?

I don't know if this will help you out any, but I have 2 president reels on 2 of my Kistler rods and they both seat very well in the rods. Have you tried putting another reel in your rod to see if the other reel moves around as well?

Hey there......

Not sure if you got problem solved......I had this problem a long time ago with some Team Daiwa reels and cant remember which rods, but just take a small piece of masking tape or electrical tape and wrap the part of the reel that fits in the reel seat......that will solve all problems............

Another problem I had was I couldnt tighten the reel seat down enough, so I used my wifes plastic jar opener to do it and that also solved the problem.

To anyone who has a problem on a certain reel, just call and ask for Ryan. He has some reel seat inserts that will solve the problem with the reels moving.

I had the same problem with some helium LTA models when I would mount some older Shimano Chronarh 100 reels on them. I bought some business card size refigerator magnets from a photo store. You cut them the size of the piece on the bottom of the reel and stick it to it. One side is magnetic and the other side you stick your business card on. You can cut it with scissors the size you need. Use one piece or double it. You can't see it under the reel foot and the Pflueger President will tighten down securely guaranteed. Shoot me an e-mail with your address and I will mail you a couple free of charge to solve your problem.
