Howdy,

I am about to order my first Kistler rod:

Speck N Red Spin 7' 6" Medium Fishing Rod (KSRMS76)

I want to ask for your opinions on whether this is the right rod selection for me. I do a fair amount of fishing off the piers on Corpus Christi NAS and I also like to wade fish areas like the Oso bay entrance. My bait of choice has been soft plastics (berkley power mullets), but I am anxious to give the berkley gulp new penny shrimp a try. I expect to use these under a popping cork and by themselves (freeline). I also use live mullet (3-4") when I am lucky enough to find them with the cast net. I do like to try some small topwater poppers on early calm mornings on rare occassion.

What I am looking for in this rod :

- maximum casting distance (I know my spinning reel and line will affect this greatly as well)
- best possible feel for detecting strikes
- saltwater durability

Living 4 hours away from the ocean, I can guarantee that this rod will see time throwing soft plastic lures for bass as well. Sorry for the volume of information, I hope I didn't put anyone asleep.

Thank you for your advice in advance.

Regards,

Randy

Randy,

You have the right idea going with the Medium. It will be more all purpose powered for the popping corks. The ML is only best if you are going with strickly light artificials.

You will love the feel and lightness of this rod. It could easily be labeled a Helium.

Have Fun!

I appreciate your help, this forum is a great tool and your customers are all great proponents of your products - which is the main reason I am going to make this purchase.

Regards,

Randy
