Texas rig

i would like to hear what some of you guys are using for texas rigs. looking at 6'6'' MH, 6'9''MH, 6'9''H, 7' MH & H. both Helium and Magnesiums. i have 2 heliums already and i am wondering, if i went with a Mg, do you think i will wish i got a Helium? will have to be bought sight unseen like the other two. thanks

Hi Waker, I have 4 soon to be 5 LTAs. If you have been on the forum long you know Trey is very excited about the new mag line. With that in mind I bought the drop shot rod and the 7'6 flippin rod with retractable butt. I love them both. The flippin rod replaced a Bassmaster (bass pro) rod and itis a night and day difference. The drop shot is new to me but has become very productive.

well i just bought my second He69APC this week, its the best rod ive ever used. i also talked my step dad (a long time Loomis man) into getting a He70mhc for spinnerbaits since he has really liked my Heliums. these rods are extremely addictive, i dont want to use anything other than a Kistler. i now have 2 He69APC and a He76HC, and plan on replacing all my other rods within the next year.

7' Mg senko rod is my choice. It is just about as light as a Helium and every bit as sensative, but with a smaller price tag. I have this rod and it has become my favorites for throwing texas rigs and smaller jigs.
The Magnum carolina rod is recomended for texas rigs but I also have this rod and I think it is a bit stiff for draging plastics. Awesome for swim jigs and swim baits though, which is what I bought it for.

I use both the 6'9"APC and the 6'9"H for texas rigging soft plastics. It partly depends on the lure weight, the cover, and the size of the fish I am expecting to land.

Originally I purchased the 6'9"H for when I was fishing tournaments on Sam Rayburn. Many times I needed the shorter rod when pitching in the trees but yet needed plenty of backbone for the size of fish there.

Now I even use it when casting tubes, brush hogs, etc for largemouth and smallmouth here on my tournament waters in Michigan.

Both rods will do the job. Think of them as a tool and which tool do you need for the specific job.

I recently received my first Kistler Helium LTA rod. I have 3 Graphite Plus rods (2 - 6 1/2 ft. MH casting rods and 1 - 6 ft. 3 in. Dock Skipping Special Spinning Rod), and I love them. My first trip using my new He69APC was June 23 & 24 on the Chattohoochee River just above Lake Eufaula (AL). I used the rod to throw unweighted Tx. rigged Senkos and Tx. rigged tubes with 3/16 and 1/4 oz weights. I caught a 5lb. 6oz. bass around 1:00 p.m. on the first day using a Tx. rigged tube with a 1/4 oz. weight. This rod is AWESOME! I can't wait to use it again. It is light and very sensitive. I'm afraid I am addicted. This could get expensive. I would recommend this rod to anyone.
