I did as I did last weekend and hwaded for the swamp pond after zeroing out at the PFA yesterday. Heavy cloud cover that opened up later, sunny, windy, on-n-off with temps in the 80's. Water level is down about two feet as it's been 7 or 8 weeks since rain.
I started throwing the 5", #222 Senko again as I did last Sun. and got a 3 lb, 12 oz-22 incher right off of the bat. She was in shallow water when she hit it. All I did was throw it out, let it sink, and then lift it off of the bottom, shaking it a little.
Tried a new floating cr/bait(shad-like) but got no hits either twitching it on top or retrieving it at about 2'. No Baby Bass or buzzbait bites either. Kept on throwing the Senko and missed a couple. They were grabbing it near the bottom so I switched over to a pitched jig.
I havn't gotten a Bass on a jig in months perhaps, because I hadn't pitched one much lately. They were hitting my 3/4 oz. rattling, black/blue jig, Sweet Beaver tailer. I dunked the whole thing in CB's Hawg Sauce.
Caught a 3 lb even, 20.5 incher, a 2.5-18 incher, and a 3 even, 20 incher, all on that jig combo. You'll notice I changed hats(that's a Tackle Tour hat) in the jig-Bass pics. That was in recognition of the slightly used, but beautiful Daiwa Heartland-Z rod I got from Cal/sdesign/Dennis(I think that's all his aliases.), a reviewer and friend at Tackle Tour. Cal donated this very nice rod for a Katrina auction at TT and I won the rod with my bid.
The last Bass was a 2 lb even, 18 incher. I missed a couple on the jig too but it felt great to finally feel that 'thump' as they were nailing it.
