6/24/04 10:46am Your Next Helium? |
|
|
This place has gotten a little quiet - AND, I seem to have too much time on my hands lately!!!
So, just for discussion's sake, knowing that a fisherman - especially a bass fisherman - is rarely satisfied with what they have, which model of the Helium LTA do you have in your sights?
Me? Hard to say, but maybe another He69APC or He76HC, but this time, with my name engraved and/or maybe some other custom touches like a spiral wrap or ti-guides ( borrowed from Koyak! )

I am thinking about the HE70HC, right now I have 2 HE70MHC's, but they are a little light for horsing bass out of the weeds. Maybe the HE70HC would have more backbone? any thoughts?

MNBASSER, sounds like a reasonable move... what are you throwing into the weeds to get them hawgs and what are you using for line? are you casting from a good distance or flipping and pitching from about 10 to 20 feet in?

Hopefully, Ti guides are something Trey can do. I have a Custom rod (St Croix Avid Blank) built with Ti Guides and I swear, the guides bring this rod to life. I also own the same model built from the St Croix Factory. The Ti Guides noticeable reduce the weight compared to the factory built model. The custom is also a LOT more sensitive than the Factory built rod.
Now, I can only imagine what Ti guides on a helium will be like. This will probably make it THE most sensitve rod. However, it will also add an additional $75 to $100 to the price of the rod.
Unfortunately, I'm at least 6 months away from ordering this rod.

Sdesign,
Usually I'm throwing a MisterTwister Exude 71/2 worm with 17lb Berkely Vanish, as far as distance I'm either pitching shallow weeds from 10 - 15 ft or casting a deep weedline. The problem was I found some shallow weeds holding 3 pounders and lost a couple, but I felt I had to use the Helium because the bite was very light, fortunatly I was still able to get 5 of the bass out and win the tournament with 15.65 lbs.

MNBasser,
If you're that close in and pitching, even flipping, why not consider a 7'6" rod? It'll give you that much more leverage for the hookset and fighting the fish. For this, of course, I'd recommend the He76HC - it's a one piece flipping/pitching rod and absolutely a gem.
Otherwise, if the length is of concern, I would highly recommend the He70HC. I'm sure it'll give you that extra touch of power you're looking for.
SD
ps - and if you can swing it - order it with Ti-guides and let Koyak and I know how it feels LOL
