10/31/04 8:11pm Crankbait Rod ... but had to post it in here.
Ok, so today we got fishing from about 1 PM to around 5 PM. There's the one pond on the course that usually produces large bass. We had just left it with zero results and decided to hit a smaller pond on our way back towards the front of the course. This pond has a foot bridge on it that smaller bass (2 lbers) are usually hiding under (they swim out into the pond when anyone walks over the bridge). Ez stops on the north side and tosses a tube bait over near the bridge, there's a channel that runs from under the bridge out into the rest of the pond. He twitches the tube a couple times and jerks it like he's been hit ... there was a huge splash right in there. He throws in a couple times and gets nothing so goes after the other bank. I've moved around the bridge and throw my jig at the mouth of the channel a couple times ... on the third of fourth throw in there I get a hit and set the hook. Right after I set the hook my Kistler bends way over and the line runs out into the deeper part of the pond. I went down the bank reeling in line so I could get to a better spot to land this guy. About that time he switches directions and runs back toward the channel, about halfway there he finally comes up and tail-walks. This thing is the biggest bass I've ever hooked. Eventually I got him pulled over to me and we got him outta the water. He weighed 7 lbs. 11 oz.
We measured this guy at 23 inches long by 17 inches around. To put this pic in perspective ... I'm 6' 5"
I caught him on a Kistler 7' Crankbait Special rod, with a TDS-103L running 30 lb Power Pro. Lure was a Cyclone 3/8 oz. jig in Sneaky Snake (Black and Blue with Gold flash) running a Zoom Pro Chunk in Sapphire Blue.

Thanks guys. Hey Clifford, I don't know if he's eatin' golf balls but he definately wanted to eat my jig that day. I had to resort to plyers to ge the hook ot of his mouth.
