im looking for the best lta spinning rod to drag tubes in depths from 18'-40' for big smallmouths(4-6 lbs.) im switching from shimano to kistler and i cant thank everyone enough for all your help, you make the proccess easy, and enjoyable. trey, i would love your input on this one !! thx, john howell (flw stren series)

I would suggest any of the three sizes, 66, 69, 7 in the medium powered. I think you want a more sensitive tip along with a firm backbone for deep water hookups which these 08 blanks will give you just that. I personally would go with the He66MS because it will be the lightest in your handle with the best balance, therefore, you will feel more strikes. If you are looking for longer casts and need to pick up more line on the hook sets, then stick to the 7'.

I've been using a 7ms for nearly 5 years now for just that....great stick. Always wanted to try a 76mhs....just haven't gotten around to it yet Smile

When you are fishing that deep, you need the rod length to accomodate the line stretch. The longer rod will also allow you to pull more line when you lift the rod and give you better control of the smallie(if that is possible). I am currently using a 7ft med LTA for deep water smallies using tubes.
