I finally caught my first smallmouth ever. I had an opportunity to go smallmouth fishing in Minnesota with Rory from Bass Man Lures. Rory took me down on the Mississippi River close to his store in Crystal Minnesota. I had the opportunity to catch some smallmouths on the new He2 6í6î medium casting rod throwing small crankbaits. The rod felt great like you were holding the line between your fingers as the bait was moving. You could feel everything that was going on. Those fish have an attitude with them. I didnít catch any big ones but I understand now what people mean now about smallmouths. I canít wait to go again.
Thanks Rory,

Congratulation Clifford!!! Smallmouths can get in your blood though. Rice Lake in Canada is the best smallmouth lake I've ever been to, and still trying to figure out how to go again!!!

congrats Cliff, on your first smallie... i love those bronzebacks... spots are great fighters as well and are pretty insane, the depths from which they will rise to strike your bait!

That's one of those reasons why I moved from Ohio to Minnesota to pursue those smallies. They're one crazy fish that BLOWS up out of the water like footballs. It is funny how it keeps me getting misunderstood mistakenly thinking those fish are footballs. LOL!
Congratulations on catching your first smallie, Clifford. I go to Cannon River system in Cannon Falls that will eventually end up connecting to Mississippi River in Red Wing. Lots, lots of those bad mamas ready to snatch my baits away.

My first small mouth was about half that size. I caught mine at Bridgeport.

Smallies are a blast, I am very lucky to be very close to some top-notch smallie water like Candlewood in Ct ,Lake Mahopac and Onieda in NY and the might St Lawrence River. Congrats on an addiction.
