I have a citica 201D that I would like to use for Pike. I would like a rod with some backbone with a mod-fast action.I need the rod to be powerful but not necessary stiff,I will fish in really tough conditions, water with very heavy cover such as lots of sunken trees.
What do you recommend?

thanks in advance!

I recomend the 7'6 flipping rod it has plenty of back bone to to horse the pike around yet it has a light enough tip to make accurate casts with smaller lures if they are needed. I have caught numerous pike and very large dogfish while loking for bass around pads with this rod and it does the job with ease.

Cristi,

I have to agree with the basscop. I live in northern Indiana, and the toothy critter invades a lot of the water I fish. The 7'6 flipper is the best choice for your application.

Good fishing!!

Christi -

I have to agree with the others about their rod recommendation. You will not be disappointed.

To Kistler1 - a dogfish is a junk fish that is similar to a carp, but even uglier if you can believe it. It is prominant in the Mississippi River and like basscop said, which I can confirm as we have fished together a number of times Smile, these nasty things can be caught in the pads or on rocks at the river dams. I have caught these 5 to 20+ lb fish using heavier strength Kistler rods with jigs and worms and have also caught them using shaky head worms on a Graphite Plus spinning rod. This is a true testimate to Kistler as I have never had one problem with my rods fighting these monsters or bass!!

Have a good one!

Clifford,

The technical name for what most of us "yankees" call a dog fish, is a bowfin. They are quite ugly, but yet the colors on this fish are some of the most beautiful you would find. Try a search using the key words "bowfin fish" and you will find a picture of one.

good fishing,

Andyl

Oh yes, the old grennal as some of us call it down here. I heard them called mudfish in Florida. It is the only fish I know that will eat lead off of baits. I have seen those things fool people before thinking they were bass during the spawn. They do however, put up one heck of a fight and like to bleed in your boat.
