I got a HE69APC a couple of months ago and want another LTA. If the APC was your only rod, what would you get next? I fish for smallmouth and largemouth.

I was in the same situation and bought the he7mhc rod.great worm and jig rod.

Smallie fishing - think I'd want a spinning rod, that's just me. The HE70MS would be my choice for smallmouth. Finesse, shakey, drop shot, tubes, small jerkbaits and cranks all would perform well using this rod. Spinning would also be acceptable for largemouth, but I'd definitely want a spinning combo if smallies were commonly available to me.

Many of our customers are raving over the new Helium LTA 7'6" models now available. You gain distance, hook set power, fish fighting control when compared to the typical shorter, more standard length rods.
Just something to consider if you are truly looking for something different but still versatile.

What would be a good reel to put on this rod?

A Shimano Stradic MgFA 2500 or a Daiwa Fuego 2000 or 3000 would be my choices.

My comment as well... I'd recommend you take a look at the He76MC. This is a very versatile rod and is great fun with smallies as well as largemouth. You can fish everything from cranks to drop shot rigs with this rod.

The He76MC is also a good rod for dragging or casting tubes for the smallies!!!!

For dragging tubes, and fishing deeper water for smallies, I'd go with a He76MHS spinning rod. It has plenty of power for deep water hooksets, and has that Helium "parabolic" action to it! The He70MS & He76MS do not have the backbone for a good deep water hookset. JMO, Jeff
