I'm looking one of these rods just for pitching & flipping smaller jigs, but the lure weight ratings of these rods are 1/2oz-1oz and was wondering if these rods are going to be a bit too stout, or are these rods light enough for fishing smaller jigs??? I'm fishing 3 MBR783GLX rods now for these jigs, but want some extra length and dont want (need) to spend the $$$ on another GLX.

So I guess in short, am I on the right track here, or should I look at another rod that would be better suited for what I'm after.. I just wish I could get my hands on these rods to feel one instead of buying blind.... Confused Confused

Hey Utreelman,

Welcome to the forum. For pitching and flipping, I always say, the longer the better. The He76HC is a fantastic rod. Since you're familiar with Loomis, I'd suggest you go to your local tackle shop and check out the MBR844C GLX. The He76HC feels almost the same as that rod, except it's 6" longer and has a slightly softer tip.

I've not pitched and flipped light jigs with it - yet - but I have been using mine to flip and pitch weightless 5, 6 and 7 inch senko's with no issues. I've also used mine to fish frogs like those from SnagProof and the Zoom Horny Toads no problem.

If you use plastic or pork trailers on your 1/4oz and 3/8oz jigs, I'm sure the combined weight would feel perfect on the He76HC.

Best of luck!

Welcome UT! As to feeling one before you buy; I bought my first sight-unseen. Fished with it(caught and landed 8 Bass on a 1/2oz buzzbait with that rod that one afternoon.) and ordered my second Helium(HE70MC) the next day!

Since you want a rod to pitch 1/4-3/8oz jigs, I'm going to recommend one of [-- login to view link --] these. I have three of them but in the 7' length. I absolutely love them and use them for many different tchniques, including topwater, spinnerbaits, cranks, hard/soft jerkbaits, and pitchin' a jig(up to 1/2oz.) IMO, they would be a better choice for your needs than the HC's. They would 'handle' those lighter jigs but still have the 'grunt' to pull a Bass out of cover.

I have one HC and one EHC, both 7',6"ers. I use them for pitchin' heavier jigs, swimbaits, and C-rigging.

I agree with SD on the longer, the better but we "agree to disagree" on the actions.........sometimes Wink

Where are you located? Maybe someone close to you can show you the rod. The He76H is the rod for what you want!

I use the 7'H for all my needs....it all depends on what rod length you are most comfortable with. The 7'6" has too soft of a tip for me...but others love it. Make it even easier BUY ONE OF BOTH!!!! Razz

Wow! Thanks for the warm welcome guys, and I appreciate the insight you have given me.. I love my GLX rods, but I need some rods to fish waters where I will be flipping alot more (I dont flip now), and with bigger fish like at Clear lake, and the Delta in CA and maybe Mexico... I tend to favor a softer tip because I think it helps detect fish better, I just think you can feel the extra weight of a pressure bight better so in that respect, I'll probably lean towards the 76HC, and will probably follow it up with a 76XHC.

I've fished the MBR844-GLX, and thought it to be a great rod but wished for a bit of extra length. I had a FSR905GLX flippin stick but it was WAY too much rod for what I do, and even the GLX was so heavy that after 2 hours fishing it my arms got so tired I had to switch rods! So the GLX flippin stick is gone, and I'll soon be fishing my new Heliums... Thanks for the input guys!!

UTReelman,

You're fishing my waters in the CA Delta and Clear Lake!! Though I haven't fished Clear Lake in a very long time. The He76HC is an awesome rod for the Delta, but then again, so are a "slough" of other Helium sticks.. pun intended Wink

I would have to suggest the He76HC. It is the best rod that I have ever owned and I have two of them. I use them for all my flippn' and pitchn' plus they are awesome for a carolina rig. I use them for 1/4 to 1/2 oz jigs and the rod is for me absolutely perfect. If you like a soft tip, this is definitely the rod for you. I think it's the one feature of the rod that I like the best. Great rod that you'll be proud to own. Actually, you'll probably want two of them.
