I want to buy a topwater rod but I am trying to get one that will best suit the need. I was thinking 6'9"-7' in length, medium power and medium action. I don't want anything with too much stiffness but enough to make it easy to work the baits. I don't need a sensitive rod obviously. I can't decide between a medium or med-heavy power. I just want something that will sling any topwater bait a mile and provide plenty of give when a fish blows up on it. I am a big fan of Kistler so that's where I am looking first.

You want a 7' M inshore rod... believe it or not the action is a lot slower and you can launch a Lucky Craft Sammy about 65-70 yds with no wind. It has enough to get a great hook set with out being to stiff and ripping the mouth of the fish. Even very soft mouths like speckled trout donít get key holed. I have caught everything from a 6 lb bass to a 47 lb red on this rod. The only thing I would especially recommend it a reel with plenty of capacity for those long cast.

The Helium LTA APC 6'9" is MH is prue for topwater and just about anything else. It all personal preference but I found it works real solid with a lot of feel and give. Good fishing

Mg 7' composite. Can't beat this rod for walking the dog and similar presentations. From small to large baits, this rod is amazing. I originally bought this rod for crank baits but after I found out how well it fishes topwaters I use nothing else. Very soft action, but I haven't had any problems muscleing fish.

I have to agree with Bryan. I have 2 of the 69APC's and use one just for topwater.

Hello,

Great advice so far.You need to consider what type of topwater fishing that you will primarily be using the rod for. For most "action baits" (poppers, spooks, splashtails), you need a rod with a good tip to impart the proper action but, enough give to prevent ripping out the trebles. I would recommend either the 6'6" or 7' crankbait special. I also really like the 6' med pistol grip rod for "walking the dog". I hope that this helps.

Good fishing,

Demetrius
