4/10/06 11:25am Tip Heavy? |

Has any one else who uses Kistler rods thought that the longer rods are a bit tip heavy? I've got the Helium 6'9" APC and it seems tip heavy compared to other rods I have. Would this have something to do with removing the foregrip? Using a heavy baitcast reel seems to help some. I've read that overall balance is as important to sensitivity as lightness and blank content. I've got some 6'6" Kistlers that seem to balance fine.

Welcome to Kistlers np.
I use 7 and 7', 6" Heliums and have never felt mine were tip-heavy and I use some of the lightest-in-weight baitcasaters I know off(Japan-Market Daiwas--6 or 7 ounces?)

Hey ( - - blocked - - ),
I've heard and tried the balance stuff, added weights to the handle and all. I like my rods just a little "tip heavy". It helps me use the momentum of the rod to cast instead of all arm motion. A lot less arm and shoulder fatigue after a long tournament day. When I say tip heavy, I mean that the rod will tip toward the small end when trying to balance at the reel seat or right in front of the reel. Try adding some weight to the butt until it balances and go try it before buying one that is "balanced"!!!

Hello,
I do not believe that any of my Kistler rods are tip heavy. I do believe that each rod balances better with different reels. There is somme debate about where that balance point should lie. I usually try for a spot about 2-3 cm above the reel seat. I palm the reel, place my middle finger on the rod and my index on the line. By doing this, my "contact point" is right at the balance point and this gives me the best feel.
I am not a fan of the add on weight kits but, would rather find the best reel to compliment the rod.
Good fishing,
Demetrius
P.S. If you would like, I can tell you which reels I use or would recommend for certain rods...just let me know.

The Helium LTA 6'9" APC Rod... what reel balances that one? I am now using a Curado201BSF... it's not bad but my Fenwicks actually feel lighter because they balance better. But the Kistler is definitely lighter when you weight them.

My favorite reel for the He69APC is the Daiwa Fuego. It weighs 7.4 oz. and is not the lightest reel available. However, it balances perfectly for me. This setup gets a work out on nearly every fishing trip. I usually have three rigged on the deck at all times. I use it for tubes, worms, senkos and finesse jigs.I hope this helps.
Good fishing,
Demetrius

T.A. it was simple I found that a 1oz jig knocker would almost slide into the end of the rod I just filed it some until it fit tight and cut the point off with a hack saw about 1/4oz I guess.(I hung 1/4oz jigs on the butt till it felt right.)I then siliconed it in place and glued the cap on.Hope this helps.
I did not have to do this to my 66MLS that I use to fish sliders I guess the extra legenth and backbone of the 70MHS combined with the small reel I use made the tip a little heavy.I cant tell that the extra 3/4oz hurt the sensativity at all.Kistler Rods are far superior to any rod that I have or have ever fished with bar none,I wish I could replace all my rods with Kistler.T.A. I will be up in your area on Old Hickory Lake fishing with the Alabama Federation Nation State Team June 4th-9th in the Southern Divisionals.

I could have reused it,I had a new cap so I was not real careful about removing it if you take your time and cut it with a utility knife twice down the sides and peel and cut it off you should be able to reuse it.I fish Wheeler some, dont like it much I dont like grass fishing.
