I got my new Kistler Helium LTA on Friday. I went with the 7' medium action. I could not believe how light it was with my curado 101b on it. Great service from Kistler, all emails replied to and received the rod in less than a week. Very impressed!
So I went to Briery Creek Lake yesterday with my Mom and Stepdad. They were in his boat, I was in mine. What a loooonnnggg day fishing till the last cast. I picked up two fish early on using a Lucky Craft Popper in American Shad color. Then later picked one up on a white popin scum frog fished slowly in some lily pads. I also lost 2 in the pads. My mother had outfished us all using a junebug colored crawdad and had 4 fish in the boat. My Stepdad had only managed one on a jig. So after 8 hours of fishing it had been a long day and we decided to go in.
I had just put my lucky craft back on the new Kistler rod because we had hit a flat area that dropped off from 1' of water or so to 12'to 15'. Midway was a line of standing timber (which is all over the lake) but inside that timber were some lily pads and the bottom was covered in milfoil. So I threw out the lucky craft popper and walked the dog at a pretty fast pace. After two casts I missed a pretty good one (set the hook too quickly because I wasn't paying attention). Another cast, nothing. So I threw out to a couple of pieces of timber off by themselves, as my last cast of the day, and I got a pretty good hit, but didn't think it was that good of a fish at first. Then it dove down hard and then I knew it was a good fish. Fought it for what seemed like forever but was probably about 45 seconds. It hung itself on a limb from the timber just under the waters surface and I started moving towards it in the boat, panicing, thinking I was going to lose it. As I got to it, it freed itself and dove down. I turned it around, with the net in hand and brought it to the boat and landed it. I went a little "Ike" and let out about 3 or 4 good yells. It weighed 8lbs exactly and measure in at 26.5" Weighed her, took photos, and sent her on her way back in the lake. That is now my 4th citation (trophy size bass as determined by the VA. Dept. of game) this year. I would have never expected to get one in just my first year of serious Bass Fishing. I love bass fishing!!!
Just wanted to say thanks Trey and Cindy for great products and service!
