I already have the He69APC MH and love it. I'm looking to add a rod that can fish both crankbaits and topwaters... mostly Pop Rs, puppies, and spooks (big ones up to 3/4 oz.). I am torn between the Helium Medium action casting rod in either a 6'6" or a 7'0" (He66MC or 70MC) that I have read so many great things about on this forum or the composite crankbait rod (KCBCM66 or 7), also in either length. Which rod/length is better suited for both cranks and topwaters?

Smile The KCBCM7 is a 7' Med action rod, this is what your looking for. I just put my order in and I can't wait to use it Laughing

I fish with most of the rods you mentioned - the HE69APC, HE70MC, KCBC66MC, and KCBC70MC. I find the KCBC70MC to feel a lot like the HE69APC - a little tip heavy - and the HE70MC and the KCBC66MC to feel more balanced.

I prefer the KCBC70MC for soft mouth species like specled trout and for spooks, chuggers, frogs, and prop baits. I find the slower tip action gives me a higher percentage of hookups and fewer fish pulling off. I also like this rod for rattletraps and other lipless crankbaits that are easily thrown. My KCBC66MC has a slightly stiffer tip and is not quite as good in these situations but the balance is better.

For other crankbaits, minnow type baits, hard and soft jerkbaits, and most other baits, I like the HE70MC. It is the most versatile rod (of many) I own. It is a close second in the situations mentioned above and clearly ahead in all others in my opinion. If I could only have one, it would have to be the HE70MC. I have caught specs and bass as small as 10" and redfish as large as 30 pounds on this rod and handles them all very well.

The good news is that you will be satisfied with your choice, no matter which rod you choose.
