Just bought an Argon 6'11" rod. Is there a recommended reel weight that would balance out the rod properly?
I'm guessing a 12-14 oz reel would be back heavy, any suggestions? The rod will be used in fresh water only with 8-10 lb test mono.
Thanks,

9/30/09 9:20pm Reel for an Argon rod.
My recommendation would be an Ardent XS1000. The Ardent XS1000 weighs about 8 oz. and has 10 bearings. It is very smooth casting and comfortable in your hands. Will handle your 8 to 10# test line very well. If you haven't tried an Ardent reel yet, I think you will be impressed!

10/1/09 12:21am reel for argon
Thanks for the tip Scott, but this Argon is a spinning rod, so I'm looking for advice on a spinning reel. I use an Abu Garcia Revo bait casting reel on my Kistler Helium LTA and it's a perfect match.
Any advice on the size/weight of a spinning reel for the 6' 11" Argon TS is greatly appreciated.

I use the abu garcia cardinal 702 series and the 502alb series on my argon 7'-6" spinning and it balances that rod perfectly. I'm sure a shimano Stradic 2500 would work also. I also use the Revo's for all of my Heliums and love them too.
