To follow up, my new HE76HC free rod arrived yesterday at my office. I was off yesterday as I had a swollen foot because a Horse fly had bitten me while fishing Sat. I got to unwrap it and hold it this AM though and it's going to be 'put to work' this Fri and Sat. as I take off for some farm pond Bassin' with my good friend Bill. Several 8+ lbers have been caught(and released) out of one of these ponds.
Of course, I'll report back with pics of some Lunkers I hope. If that doesn't happen, it won't be for lack of the best and the right 'tools' .

Hey Dan,
So what are your initial impressions just holding the rod in your hand?

Dennis: It was as though my hand got LIGHTER! I had to hold it down with my other hand to keep it from just waving around and scaring my co-workers!

Hey guys, i have a question. I just received my brand new daiwa ito 103M, the right hand model. The reel looks amazing. However, when I turn the spool with my finger, it only seem to turn few times, maybe less than 7? I thought thes ito reels are famous for 30,000 turns/min? Is something wrong with my reel? I have the external brake set at 0 and the casting control set all the way down to minimal where the spool feels loose. But still it would only turn few times. I expected the spool to turn more freely. It does not seem to spin even as much as my antares ar. I haven't fished the reel but.... Please help. Is my reel retarded? thanks.

DKSU, where did you find an Ito reel? I thought they were all gone?
In anycase, make sure you adjust the spool tension knob so that the spool does NOT move from side to side.. if this does not help, open up the sideplate, pull out the spool and place a drop of the red oil that ( - - blocked - - ) with the reel on both the bearing assembly on the spool, and the one in the faceplate you just removed. Re-assemble the reel and try again.
Could be the reel has been sitting in storage for a year or two and just needs some fresh lubricant.

thanks for replying back. The oiling didn't help. Any other suggestions? BTW, I got my ito from japan tackle, but the owner located one for me in japan, and he said it was the last one he could find. I wish there were more out there.

DKSU,
I'd email Jun your concerns with the reel and see if he has any suggestions. Doesn't sound like it's working correctly to me.

dksu,
no no... i was suggesting YOU email Jun to tell him about the problems you are experiencing - not I. He's very good about helping people out that are experiencing problems with reels purchased from his store, but I have no pull with him.
goodluck!

" but I have no pull with him."
Muuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhahaha Stop it! I can't take it anymore. He named his first-born after you.
(dksu, I'm just having 'fun' with Cal. Do get a hold of Jun and get some answers.)
