I just bought my third magnesium ts. It is the 7' Medium spinning rod. When I attached the reel (Shimano Stradic 2500 MgFb) to it, I realized that it seems like the reel seat is too far back. There is about an inch of threads exposed in between the reel seat and the rod. So when I hold the rod, I am holding the threads where the reel is tightened down instead of the rod itself. My two older magnesiums are not like this and am just wondering why the newest magnesium would. It doesn't make sense to me.

Mine is like that too. I put some tennis racket tape over the exposed threads to make it more comfortable. I can still reach the blank easy with my finger. I do love my Kistlers (all 8 of them)... but the best reel seat and grip I have found on a spinning rod is on the Cumara. It is very comfortable. I just like the action of the Kistler's better, and the company in general.

I had the same problem with my Reels. So Instead of using electrical tape, I used cork tape. It work's great, looks almost factory, and is not slippery. It does not add much weight to the rod at all.

I have this same gripe with my 7' Mg Crankin' rod. It seems like the longer rods were proudly designed here in the US to hold LARGE round reels, for shore fishing, or deep sea fishing to me.

A low-profile reel just looks good on it, but you have those extended threads to deal with, once you snug it all up. Confused

That cork tape idea seems pretty slick!
