12/30/08 7:22pm Difference between rods? |

What is the difference between the Alton Jones 6'10" MH casting rod and the Chatterbait 6'10" MH rod? They are both MH fast action blanks, and I noticed the Alton jones is less expensive. I need a good swimming jig rod. Thanks.

Actually, the two are very close and both will work well for swimming jigs. It's a coin toss really. Alton's rod was built around the others design if that tells you anything. We have discontinued the Chatter Bait rod. We only have a few left in stock.

I was looking at some of the Alton Jones signature rods, and thought they looked a LOT like my fatty blank 7' Medium composite graphite/ glass Mg Crankbait rod.
Don't get me wrong, it has some great action, but I feel it really is limited to crankbaits with a lot of whip. Throwing anything heavier, like spinnerbaits, or buzzbaits just yanks out tons of line very quickly.
I also have the Chatterbait rod and it is AWESOME. It has a thinner blank, but rocks with jigs, 1/2 oz. rattle trap type baits, weightless Senkos, and soft paddle-tail swim baits.
I would be hard pressed to give up my Mg Chatterbait rod, unless it was for an Argon.
I say buy 'em while they have them. It's sad to hear the Chatterbait rod is being discontinued, but I got mine.
