Fall light tackle cranking

Here in NY, the air temp dropped 25 degrees over night and settled to about 28 degrees. In the fall, I worry little about the water temperature since I truly believe that bass are more in tuned to the bait and would forego their own comfort somewhat to grab a meal.

Thank to Clifford and Trey, I got my 6-6 Helium ML spinning and casting rods last week, in time for my favorite fall pattern....... light tackle cranking.


Teamed with a Stradic MGf and 6lb Super Silver Thread, I set out to throw my favorite fall bait, a Bagley's Honey B in old perch pattern with a modified short diving bill and HookerZ red Trebles. Now last week I was out there catching between 45 and 50 fish in a few hours work. I set out yesterday despite the extreme cold and bone chilling winds. The water was 43 degrees and by any sense of the word conditions were more appropriate for a Float N Fly or Rabbit hair jig than a crankbait, still I persisted. The Honey B which runs 1 to 3 feet with the modified square bill picked up a ton of jumbo yellow perch and several nice bass, my first bass of the day was a 20" and fought like a champ on the ML LTA.
