Can anyone tell me about the Daiwa TD-X103HSDF reels??? Been out for a while, and things have changed !!! Having a hard time catching up

what would you like to know -
its a good reel, but heavy, especially after using the higher end diawa's(tdz's and alpha's)

I would wait for a SOL if i still bought U.S. series reels

it is a watered down version of the japanese Alpha - which put my tdx103hsdf to complete shame....

Like I said, I've been out for about ten years and need to update my equipment. Don't want to buy junk, but can't afford ten $500.00 reels either. I appreciate the I-CAST info, that will help!!!

I forgot to say that I have already updated rods to nearly all Helium, with exception to crankin rod, which is a Kistler, & carolina rig, which is an IM7 Kistler!!! Still trying to update on reels for upcoming tournament season. Wish that decision was as easy as the rods!

As Lifeofcb said, the reel is heavy. however, it is a sweet casting reel and almost impossible to backlash when you have it set up correctly. I've been very happy with mine, but at times do wish the reel was lighter.

Thanks, that is what I was looking for. Remember, I'm used to my antique equipment. When I told Trey what rods I was still using, he called me a dinosauer. So, with a helium rod, everything feels light to me, but in ( - - blocked - - ) I don't want to waste my money, and Clifford told me you guys would steer me down the right path for new, not so antiquated equipment!!! Thanks again, I don't know what is "the reel" and what to stay away from!!

You might want to look at the new Shimano Chronarch 50MG and/or wait for the Daiwa Fuego to debut. Both these reels are magnesium, priced between $200 - $300, and offer the latest from both companies.

If you want to take a stab at the Japanese Market reels, but want to save some money, try the Scorpion 1000/1001 series. They offer the best bang for the buck right around $160.

Otherwise, the Scorpion 1000 MG is the same reel as the Shimano Chronarch 50MG and available widely through Japanese market retailers like JapanTackle.com and Profishing Network.

ps - the Fuego is the American market version of the TD-X Airmetal from Japan.

Okay, now i'm hearing names and models that I've not heard before, and that is what I'm looking for. Thanks so much for the info, and anyone else that would like to tell me their favorites and why, I would certainly appreciate it. Need to update at least 8 more reels. I was still using Quantum Pro 3C's with a couple of older curado's, but don't like being classed as a dinosaur. By the way, my old rods were built by Billy Kistler!!!

You are in trouble now! Sdesign is making recommendations . All joking aside, Sdesign has a lot of knowledge of tackle.

i have a Scorpion Mg 1000, and that is one sweet casting, light reel. The Scoprion Mg mounted on my He69APC weighs less then 10 oz. Also a great braking system. I think I will be ordering a Scorpion or another Sciorpion Mg in the near future.

Up north here in Minnesota.... a lot of guys swear by the durability and components of the Abu Garcia Ambassadeur C3o or C4 for a baitcaster. 55-100$ retail. Muskies Walleyes Bass.... mine weighs 9.5 oz C4....feels very good on my MLC helium. And it matches the Blue!

I'd love to splurge 300 bones on a quality reel, but I chose to get the best possible rod I could, and get a quality reel without going overboard.

Thanks Guys, you've all been very helpful, and the warning was right, went to those sights recomended last night and bought a TD-Z this morning from someone I found at dealtackler. They also had a Scorpian 1000 for $150.00. Started to buy it also, but remembered what was said about the budget!!! So far I've bought a TDZ, a TDX and a Castaic. Any mistakes???

Just to let you know, i now have 2 TD-Z103H's, a TD-ZP, a Scorpion MG, a Scorpion Quickfire, A TD-X103HSDF, (too heavy), a TD-X Air Metal and a Castaic!!!! Nearly re-outfitted, except will have to go visit Trey a couple more times, and I not listening to sdesign anymore. I also deleted japantackle from my favorites list. )at least hid it where my wife can't find it)
