Differences in HE2HC76T* rods?

Postby curls » 3/8/11 9:20am

I'm looking for some insider advice on a few things pertaining to my new (2009 model?) LTX 7'6" telescopic rod, model HE2HC76T*.

There were two rods available - they looked nearly identical but one had the Recoil guides, the other had more standard guides with inserts. The rod with the Recoil guides also had silver winding checks and trim around the grips and the reel seat, whereas the other rod (with standard guides) had more grey/black/gunmetal color trim and winding checks.
The Recoil rod felt a slight bit lighter in my hand, so I got that one. I'd like to know if there are other underlying differences between these two rods, though.

Secondly, this rod, labeled as a 7'6" telescopic, only extends to 7' 4.75" at most. Is that typical of a telescopic rod to be shorter than advertised? How tight should I have the telescopic joint when fishing? As tight as possible, or, snug enough not to easily rotate? I don't want to crush or break the joint by forcing it too hard, but I also don't want it too loose as to sacrifice sensitivity.

Thanks.

The two rods were built in two separate years and the blanks were different powers and actions. Both are good quality and unique. You should pull the top section out as much as possible to create a very tight fit. Do not worry about damaging the either section as they are designed to handle whatever you put them through while pulling or pushing in and out. Take care of that rod since it is a collectors item since being discontinued last year.

Thanks Trey!

Of the two years/builds, which is the recoil guide one? And, what are the characteristics of its power and action vs the other years of this model? I'm just trying to get a better idea of what to expect in 3 months when the water is not frozen and when bass season opens. :) Also, if I were really taken aback by this model vs the other one, I suppose I could swap them via my retailer as he had both. I mainly flip and pitch 3/4oz jigs into anything from open water to thick vegetation and wood. Usually deeper weedlines with thick weeds near the bottom, in probably 5-12' of water.

Do you think the telescopic feature sacrifices any sensitivity over a 1-piece at all?

Cheers,
Eric

The recoil rods were used on the 2009 version and the blanks were super strong and fast so I think you will love the way it performs in the situations mentioned. The two piece verses a one piece does not cost you sensitivity.
