Fishing Rods

I read the topic on a Helium for senkos. I love those baits but I also like to cast the 5" and 4" variety weighless rigged wacky style. At one point I had a Kistler Wacky Worm rod (the spinning version) and sold it after switching to all Helium casting rods. I think I should have kept it. I have the He69APC but I don't think it is soft enough to cast the weightless wacky worms properly. It's fine for Texas rigged senkos with or without a weight. Would a He70MC fit the bill better?

Don't worry, the He76HC is still in the plan for a pitchin' rod.

Chavez....Until just recently, I was using the Senko Special rod when rigging a Senko wacky style. The rod was excellent for the application.

I am now trying the Helium 7' medium for this and I am not sure if I like it as well for this. I need to use it more to have a good comparison. But right now, I believe I felt more strikes with the Senko Special rod then I have with the Helium...

Chavez, I'll second or third the 70MC for weightless wacky worms. That's my go-to rod for anything weightless. Shoot me an email, and I'll let you check the rod out (and the 7'6" H). If things get too light, I switch to the dock skipping special spinning rod...

Got the He70MC today. The tip on it looks much better suited to wacky worm casting. We'll see this weekend when I try it in one of the clear water lakes near the house. I'm pretty sure it'll be a good addition to the arsenal.

Went with eight other kayak anglers to downtown Austin's Town Lake (motor boat restricted) this morning. The 70MC did fine casting the 4" wacky senkos. It did better casting 1/4 oz crankbaits. I was very pleased with it. It allowed me to side cast under overhanging trees with very good accuracy.

It seemed like a mild cool front passed through in the morning but I was still able to catch one 3lb bass with the 70MC using a 1/4oz chrome/blue back Rat-L-Trap so the rod has been christened. The rod was giving enough that the Owner Stinger treble hook didn't get ripped out when the bass ate it and the hook went clean through the lip on the rod sweep (good backbone). I just wish one of the 3lbers big sisters had liked my Rat-L-Trap as well.
