Fishing Rods

I bought a Magnesium rod over the weekend. Upon getting it home I noticed the rod tip was crooked. I could twist it easily with barely any effort to get it straight. I went to take it back to Cabelas but there were no more available so I had to kept that one or get my money back. I was wondering if I could pull the tip off and add glue? Will I lose some of the sensitivity doing this? Also is this a common issue. I have an older Kistler that the rod tip kept coming off as well and I sent it back to get fixed but its a hair shorter now. I also have a Kister LTA but so far so good with that one.

Shawn, I've been using Kistler Rods for 3 seasons now and have never had a tip issue as far as coming loose. I broke one in a compartment door tragedy and broke one when I reeled down too close to a 4 lb. fish and then tried to swing it in the boat but out of 18 or so rods I've never had one come loose. With that said, if you could do without it long enough I'm sure they would fix it, but in the days of pre-Kistler I carried a small stick of tip glue in my tackle box for just such incidents.

I would recommend that if you are going to "do it yourself " then, I would use simple 2 part epoxy instead of the tip glue. The hold is much better. This should not alter the performance of the rod in any way.

Sorry to hear about your tip being loose. I suggest you try to fix it yourself to save a bunch of shipping cost. It is easy and it will not affect the sensitivity or the performance.

Use whatever glue you have available such as expoxy, rod tip hot glue or even super glue is a good bonding agent if the fit is tight between the blank and the tip which it should be on the Mg rod.

What Trey said. I broke a tip off getting it out of my truck and just fitted a new tip with hot glue with no noticeable difference.

Thanks for the info. Now I just have to figure out how to get the glue in between the rod and rod tip with out taking the tip off. I assume just putting at the base of the rod tip with it on the rod will eventually fail. Same thing I tried on my other one. Is it easy to take off the rod tip. It already spins around. Can I just pull it off?
