Magnesium MgMWCRH70 Worm/Carolina Rig Rod Comparison

Postby skeetersx200 » 3/17/10 10:05am

I have several of the MGMWCRH70 rods and would like to have another so I'm looking for a new Kistler very similar. Would that be either the McMag70HC or MgJTCR70. I'm leaning toward the micro guide rod because it is rated for the same weight baits. Is the MgJTCR70 slightly stiffer at the tip than my old magnesium TS's.

Thanks,

The two blanks are the same. The micro will toss heavier lures because of the reduced guide weight. Yes, the action is faster on the 2010 models as well as the power is stronger in the backbone. You might even like the MH model better.

Well I was able to track down a new MGMWCRH70 and purchased it but it looks slightly different. It has a spiral look on the blank and a high gloss in front of the reel seat for a few inches. Everything else appears to be exactly the same. Are there any differences in performance?

Thanks again,

Josh

I would like to know why it changed to this spiral is this a new design or is this an older design? why change from the smooth?

The spiral as you call it is actually an unsanded blank finish meant to keep the blank stronger by retaining the entire wall thickness. Sanding can sometimes lead to thin wall thickness in the blank or hot spots resulting in a weak rod. This is why you see other companies beginning to doing this "copying Kistler" yet again.
