Difference between Crankbait Rods

Postby Leon O » 2/18/10 6:36am

What are the primary differences in the characteristics / intended uses of the different Crainkbait rods in the Magnesium & Argon lines?

I fish from the bank and use smaller crankbaits. I usually have only 3 rods with me, so I look for versatility. Currently, I have several Medium and Medium Light fast action rods that I use for treble hook baits.

I just ordered the Argon 6'11' MH spinning rod. :) I'm assuming it will be fairly versatile, but I'm thinking I might want to try a dedicated casting CB rod.

Thanks!

Leon

Really, there are so many types of crankbaits and many different types of structure to fish. Use this as a guide:
light cover=light rod, light line
moderate cover=medium rod, stronger line
heavy cover= med-heavy rod, strongest line

This will ensure your success at getting a BIGGER bass all the way to the shore. Other methods will often cause broken hearts...if you know what I mean.

Thanks Trey, would you please also address how either the glass/graphite composite or all graphite rods might be preferable in different situations (or preferences). Unfortunately, I do not have a local dealer where I can handle them.

I should also note that this issue may not be of immediate concern for me since I now have a 2009 LTX 6'9" MH on the way :D

It might be a while before my "accountant" grants permission for another rod :)
