Over the past four years I have been using kistler rods. I am pleased with the sensitivity and performance of the rods.

New to Kistler, need some help

Postby NCPete » 1/29/10 8:11pm

I'm new to the Kistler brand, and am trying to find my way around -- any and all help will be appreciated!

My next purchase is going to be a deep crankbait rod for offshore work. I've seen the ones recommended in the store on this site, and the specifications seem too much action wise (all are heavy), I think, for what I want to do (DD22s, SK Series 6, DT 20s, etc.)

In older forum posts I've seen reference to a 7'6" MH rod. Is that rod still available?

Pete,

Don't know what to tell you about the 7'6" MH's. I didn't realize Kistler doesn't carry anything in that longer length in the LTA's or LTX's now,

I have several of the LTA 7'6's and used two of them exclusively for throwing DD22's, but last year changed over to the Argon 7'9" "Longcaster" which is a perfect rod to throw Deep Diving crankbaits on. The extra 3" allowed for an even longer cast (which is what you are looking for...).

I read something about Trey Kistler planning to reintroduce the Argon's sometime soon, but that unfortunately doesn't help right now. I would recommend keeping your eyes open for the reintroduction of the Argon 7'9" "Longcaster." I know you are looking for a sensitive MH action rod to throw your Deep Diving crankbaits as far as possible; it is one that I still use all the time.

Hope this helps some, and perhaps Trey can provide a better explanation on the subject.

I recently picked up a Magnesium All Day Power Tool 7'8". The main purpose I got it was to throw deep diving cranks such as DD22s'. I think this rod would be perfect for what you are wanting to do. The power says heavy, but I think it is closer to MH after holding it. Hope this will help you out.

You are exactly correct. It will perform like a strong MedHeavy powered rod.
