Z bone spirl wrapped guides or not?

Postby Danny » 1/29/10 3:50pm

I have been reading some about spiral wrapped rods, and recently talked to a local custom rod builder about the advantage of spiral wrapped rods. There appears, according to what I have read and in talking to the builder, to be definite advantages to the spiral wrapping method. It is not a new guide wrapping method, and, supposedly, it is gaining some renewed interest.

If there are advantages, is spiral wrappiing a rod something Kistler would consider as a future option?

Many of the latest Z bone custom rods we have built for customers have included a spiral wrap so yes it is increasing in demand. I myself will be testing the advantages over conventional wrapped guides next month on Falcon Lake. I'm sure I'll have something measurable to report after my trip.

Trey, did you have the opportunity to fish with a spiral wrapped rod when you were on Falcon Lake?

Absolutely yes and loved every minute of it. I personally could not see any difference between standard and round wrapped. I'm sure there could be a small percentage of advantage in some cases. It sure did not affect anything negatively. We pulled hard on those bass in the trees. Check out this link to tackletour.com's review http://tackletour.com/reviewkistleratfalcon.html

If anyone is wondering how special these Z bone rods are, then read what we did on Falcon Lake recently
