Hey Guys,
I've been haveing trouble with line breaking at the knots with flourocarbon lines. I've tried different lines, different knots, different drag settings and different hook sets!!!! Any thoughts on this matter???

I use a Palomar knot with Pline flourocarbon and haven't had a break off all year. Its extremely important to wet the knot right before you cinch it up.

I've use 8-12lb test Pline without a single knot breaking. What size and brand are you using?

I had the same problem and one of my better pro anglers told me you MUST wet the knot area completely and tighten very slowly as to not create any friction.

I also read somewhere that the saliva from our mouth has a chemical that can breakdown the line just as the stomach would a food item. Maybe or maybe not?

He also said ANY kink in the line from a backlash will result in a premature breakoff at that spot.

I've used the palomar, trilene & improved cinch knot. I always wet it good, and I use "P" line CX 15 & 17 lb. I've tried Vanish, Suffix Seige and several others and don't know what it is!!! Thanks for your input, maybe it is acids in the saliva???

Andy, it may be the specific fluro you're using as I don't have that problem and I've been using 15 and 20# test Seaguar's Carbon Pro fluro for 5 or 6 years now. I tried vanish once and then I made it 'vanish' as it broke way too easily.

I use either of two knots; the Crawford or the SD Jam. Either one will hold and not break or slip on fluro or any other type of line. The Palomar works too but it becomes problematic when tieing to larger baits like a spinnerbait or buzzbait so I don't use it.

Yes, you must wet any knot thorougly and instead of using saliva, I tie the knot loosely, slide it down near to the line tie eye, and then before cinching it down tightly, I just dip the bait and loose knot into the water that's all around me .
