Guide Prep for Salt Water

Postby fishsmart » 10/29/09 2:33pm

Have purchased 2009 HE70MC rods. Understand the guides are SIC. What material composes the guide frames. Do they need to be waxed, etc... for use in salt water?

I thought I answered this? Oh well, I'll answer it again.

Yes, wax the entire rod especially behind the guide frame with a car wax. This will keep the salt from getting into the porous epoxy and rusting the stainless steel frames. Otherwise, if you just wash the rod after fishing with soap and water, the guides will still last 5 years or more.
