Drop Shot Rod Help

Postby Larry » 8/7/09 5:03am

I am looking to buy my first drop shot rod. Which rod would be the better choice:

Magnesium Drop Shot rod (MgDSFWML79S)

or

Magnesium 7' All Purpose rod (MgAPM70S)

The weights I will be using are 1/4, 3/8, and 1/2 oz.

Thanks.

Larry,
I have no experience with the MgAPM70S, but i love my MgDSFWML69S. I have used it all over. Since I live on Lake Erie, I get alot of practice drop shotting. I have used this rod for drop shotting in 3 feet all the way to 45. Best rod on the market! I have thrown 1/8 oz. up to 1/2 with this rod and never had a problem with feel.

Hello Larry,
Im quite experienced with both rods you are inquiring about, and have done a lot of drop shotting as I live in Southern California. As far as a pure drop shot rod goes you could'nt get a much finer rod than the MgDSFWML69S, this rod can drop shot with the best. The Magnesium 7' All Purpose rod (MgAPM70S) is also a great rod, this rod has a lot more backbone and a little less tip action, I use it a lot for split shotting and shakey heads.

Im not sure what type of Drop Shotting your looking to do or what type of structure you are intending to fish or your price range? I would also like to recommend the Kistler Argon Series Finesse Special AFF611S. I have been using this rod since May and have found this to be one of my Go To Drop Shot Rod, very sensitive tip with a lot of backbone. I used this rod on the Columbia River FLW Western Series and had a blast with the river smallies. If you want a little more backbone in your drop shot rod this is it. Well hope that helps, drop another post if you have more questions. Tight Lines.
