Fishing Rods

Hey,

I've been looking at buying a crankbait rod for months now, but I'm having a hard time deciding between medium or medium heavy. I was looking to buy the Helium LTA 7' Medium Fishing Rod, but then the Argon Crank Bait 7'2" MH Cast Fishing Rod was introduced, and it sounded perfect. But I found that most people are using mediums for everything "crankbait". Why is that? What am I sacrificing by getting a medium heavy instead of a medium?

I use both Med-Hvy, and Medium action rods for fishing crankbaits. I use the Med for mid to shallow running cranks, and the Med-Hvy for deep running cranks and rattle traps. Now if I had to pick one action personally to fish crankbait with it would be the medium action rod.

What type of crankbaits do you mostly throw?

I'm mostly using shallow crankbaits, its not often that I go much deeper than 10'. Also do you think the medium would be over powered by an Abu Garcia "winch" baitcaster? Its the only 5:3:1 reel that comes in a lefty version that I could find?

I really don't know that much about the Abu Winch reels, but I am sure it would work fine on it. I would for sure stick with the medium action if most of the cranks you throw are 10' or less. Let us know if you have any other questions.

That really narrows down the opinions. Thanks skeeter. That brings it down to eithier the 7' LTA med, or the 6'9" Argon med. Is the extra 50$ worth it?

Sorry for the delayed response I have beeen pretty busy as of lately. I really like both rods. I am still getting used to the Argon Series to be honest with you, but what time I have used them I love them. I have fished with LTAs for a few years and love the way they feel and the sensitivity of them. I think either way you can't go wrong.

I love my new Argon 7'9 crankbait special. I can throw Deep Diving and medium diving cranks a country mile with this rod that allows the bait to run at its maximum depth and stay in the strike Zone longer. The moderate to fast action tip allows for immediate but forgiving hook sets. (Thanks Trey)
