Magnesium Spinning Med,versus Magnesium Spinning Med. Heavy?

Postby creekchub » 1/8/09 7:23pm

For the past 7 years I have used St Croix 6ft 6" Medium Fast action rods for all of my spinning needs. I have just sold them and have decided to switch over to Magnesium Spinning 6ft 6"AP rods.
I love the casting Magnesiums and think the spinning versions would be great!

On spinning gear I never throw any lines heavier than 8lb test and often use 6lb test . I occasionally will also use 20lb braid (6lb diameter) for topwater baits. I intend to throw senkos, small finnesse jigs up to 5/16 ounce, tubes and 4" sluggos with some topwater popr 's. I am concerned that the FAST action AVIDS that I am used to might throw my fishing off if I deciude to fish the MAGNESIUM 6FT6" MEDIUM (MOD FAST ACTION) RODS.
My question is: Knowing that I never exceed 8lb test line for spinning applications am I better off with the MEDIUM or MEDIUM HEAVY MAGNESIUM ALL PURPOSE SPINNING RODS? I am used to a fast action rod,,,,how much will it take for me to get used to a moderate fast action rod or am i better off just fishing the medium heavy MAGNESIUM Spinning rod 6ft 6" model since I am used to a fast action rod? Trey or others what is your best recommendation?
Many Thanks,

Trey is the expert on suggesting the right rods for each person/use.

IMO I would say that the medium action would be better for the small lines that you use.
