DOES THE ABU GARCIA REVO STX FIT KISTLER RODS ????

Postby howeydog » 12/17/08 10:13pm

HI MEN, NOW THAT I SWITCHED FROM SHIMANO RODS TO THE WORLDS FINEST STICKS....KISTLER RODS, IM NOW GOING TO UNLOAD MY CURADO'S AND BUY ABU GARCIA REVO STX REELS. I HAVE READ IN HERE BEFORE THAT SOME REELS DONT FIT TIGHT ONTO THE REEL SEAT OF THE KISTLER ROD AND I WAS WONDERING IF THATS A PROBLEM WITH THE REVO ?? THERE ARE ALOT OF GOOD FISHERMEN ON THIS FORUM AND ANYONE THAT IS USING THE REVO NOW PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK OF IT. I FLIP ALOT AND I LIKE THE IDEA OF THE 24LB. DRAG IT HAS. JUST SEEMS LIKE A REVO ON AN XHVY KISTLER ROD WOULD BE THE TICKET. THANK YOU FOR ALL OF YOUR TIME, JOHN HOWELL

The rods that have the Fuji reel seats will be fine, it was the Batson reel seats that had issues with certain reels.

ALL of the 09 Kistler Rods will have the FUJI reel seats except the Carbon Steel models which will have the Pac Bay seats. Both of these designs hold the reel feet secure with no problem. It was the Batson reel seats we had been using that had issues holding many common reels secure.

Revo on Kistler

Postby Ray Long » 12/29/08 2:47pm

I got a Revo STX for Christmas and I put it on my Kistler chatterbait rod and it fits like a glove - no problems. Hope this helps out. Good Fishing and have a blessed New Year.

I personally would stay away from the revo reels with the magnetic brake. I bought a sx and an stx last year and found that while they were smooth, quiet, very ergonomic, and had a smooth, and powerful drag, the casting ability was absolutely the worst I've ever fished. I have been using baitcasters for a long time and have used just about every reel out there and I have never had the problems I've had with this reel. No matter what weight lure I was using, no matter what weather conditions I was fishing, I had to turn the magnetic brake ALL the way on and tighten the friction cast control knob very tight to keep from backlashing even using a half ounce rattle trap on a calm day! Then, heaven help you if the wind picked up any! You couldn't turn on any more brake or spool friction to compensate and you were really screwed, and like I said I am an experienced baitcaster. when it comes to casting with these reels there is NO room for variables or error. Maybe that is why ABU went to centrifugal brakes on the revo inshore and Skeet Reese? I have 6 Shimano Curados and love them NO issues what soever, I would stay with shimano if I were you!

i have switched almost completely to abu garcia revo reels, and love them. I have been using kistler rods long before the switch to abu garcia with shimano curado reels. I have three stx reels one paired with a magnesium, the other with an lta and i have had no problems.

The Revo STX's are the best reels I have ever used. I used the Shimano's, Daiwas, and Ardents and none of these compare to the casting ability of the Revo. They have proven to be a quality built reel that lasts a long time. I have 8 Revo's now and some of them are 3 years old and work just as good now as they did the day I purchased them. I use them on all of my Kistler rods and never had any problems with them. They fit the reel seats perfectly with no play what so ever. You can't go wrong with the Revo STX, buy the Skeete Reese, or Winch edition if you want the best reels Abu makes.
