My son, Little Alton, fished the co-angler side of the Elite Series this past season. One of his pros (I won't mention any names) asked him "how are you out-distancing me like that? What in the world kind of reel is that?". And that was a 16-year-old fishing with a 10-year tour veteran.

My favorite is the XS-1000, but the XS-600 is a really nice piece of equipment too.

When is Ardent going to produce a lefty baitcasting reel? I would gladly buy one if they ever come out with one. I have two types of Quantums and 3 Shimanos, 2 of the old green ones and a Scorpion 1501. all lefties. Oh, and a Abu Garcia 5601 I use for Muskies.

Bruce,

I have a note into David Duncan who is the VP at Ardent, asking him about the left handed reels. Haven't heard back from him yet since it was the weekend, but will let you know what he has to say when I hear back from him.

Bruce,

Received a response this morning from David Duncan of Ardent reels concerning your question about left handed reels. Mr. Duncan said: "...It is a top priority for the company and we are working hard to get a left handed reel developed...."

Appears there has been alot of interest in Ardent's left-handed reels lately. I'll try to keep everyone up to date on the latest developments with Ardent; especially with the introduction of their left-handed reels.

baitcast reel for my new 6'8 micro magnesium mh casting rod

Postby ranger87 » 4/26/10 7:37pm

I am new to casting setups and I was wondering what reel would be good for my 6'8 micro magnesium mh casting rod. Preferably anything under the 200 dollar range.

I agree with BassWarrior. I have a medium size hands and I love Chronarch 51 Mg, Scorpion Mg on my Helium2 and LTA´S medium action rods and the green Curado E7 for medium heavy actions.

If you can find a Chronarch 50/51MG for $200 (used good condition) they are a fantastic reel.

However, if you are new, you should really evaluate whether you want a LH or RH retrieve reel. If you grew up with spinning gear and crank with your left hand, you might fing the traditional RH retrieve casting reels to be very distracting.

Also, if you do not have a lot of time to dedicate to practicing you baitcasting technique, you might consider the Dual Braking System reels. Although Bass Pro Shop DBS reels will not have much of a resale value, they are relatively inexpensive for experimental purposes.

I have 2 custom z bones with a Daiwa Steez on one and the other is a Pflueger Patriarch XT and I love them both. The Steez and z bone are the lightest combo Ive ever held. :D John

I have Shimanos on all 4 of my Kistler rods, from Chronarcs to Curados and just purchased Curado 200G5's for my new Kistler Crankbait rods that I'll be picking up on Monday. The reel ( - - blocked - - ) in first in the Crankbait reel comparison test against the Zillion, the Winch, and others. For the money, Shimano's are hard to beat.
