would i be better off looking at the composite graphite rods or helium LTA as far as crankbaits?

I only use the Helium series but they say the graphite is good to. I would get the 7' MC for crankbaits...It has enough power to pull them to the boat but not too much to rip the hooks out.

Helium LTAs all the way for me. I have caught a few Bass lately using cr/baits and my Helium 7' MCs.

Here is a pic one of my MCs and a nice Bass. The significance of the 'catch' is that my Helium brought that Bass to my boat with only two points of the rear treble hook stuck in the Bass's upper lip.

That was a 5 1/2 lb Bass. Here is a pic of a 5lb, 13oz Bass; same bait and rod only this time, the two points of the rear treble hook were in the side of her 'face' and my Helium made it possible both to detect the soft strike/snag and to keep from pulling the hook away from her.

Now, I've not used a "composite graphite" Kistler but I'm totally satisfied with my HE70MCs and I feel confident that you will too :) .

The composite crankbait rod is awesome! I fished crankbaits almost exclusively this fall so my KCBCM7 was in my hands constantly. I am surprised how sensitive this rod is - the late fall crankbait bite on the Potomac: basically, the crankbait would stop vibrating. but different from weeds fouling the crankbait. this rod was so sensitive I was able to easily differentiate between the two. also I lose maybe 1 fish in about 50. I think those are pretty good numbers. I am sure the soft mod-fast action has a lot to do with it.

I've cast everything from 3/16 oz Lucky Crafts to 3/4 oz Rapala DT 16. This rod launches any crankbait over 1/4 oz.

The Composite cranker does not get the press that the heliums do. the Composite cranker maybe the best kept secret in bass fishing. Considering this rod costs $130, it is a steal! Buy one before Trey decides to raise the price!

Mike

BTW - I am negotiating with the Spousal Unit to buy another one.

:D SD, Good one! One Spousal Unit is enough for me. No way I could handle any more. Actually, I wouldn't wish two spousal units on my worst enemies.

Lightning, you and I are on the same page. I can't stress how versatile the He70MC is. I've used it for throwing just about everything.

7 foot composite cranking rod

Postby Guest » 12/19/04 3:10pm

I have thsi rod and it is sweet. I like to throw jerkbaits on it liek the size 12 huisky jerk and the pointers it works really nice for those but shines with crankbaits. I can feel ervything with a norman middle n it is unreal but the tip lets a little forgiveness so you dont rip it out of their mouths. I am highly impressed with this rod for throwing crankbaits int he 1/4 to 1/2 size and it can chuck them a country mile too.
