I started not to go the swamp pond as it got cold overnight but am I glad I did! 50 degrees, windy(15 mph gusts--off-n-on), dark clouds, water clarity--less than 2', and the threat of rain met me on the water but I bundled up and hunkered down .
Started with a new spinnerbait, then pitched a jig, then threw my new t/w bait all to no avail so I clamped off to a stump and started throwing the same C-rig as I did Wednesday. On the 4th or 5th retrieve, the bullet weight hung-up on a root or branch on the bottom so I lifted the rod tip and worked it loose. Then it hung-up again and I 'popped' it loose. Then I felt the slightest bit of 'weight' and I set the hook and got hung up again but this time a Bass was trying to get away. Reeled in a 5 lber using the same GY Grub and a 4/0 Sugoi hook as before
Kept throwing the C-rig but no more pick-ups so...........what are we supposed to do when it's windy: that's right, throw a spinnerbait. I got this new, 1/2 oz s/b from Tackle Warehouse and started slow-rollin' it in 9' of water. On the 3rd cast, I rolled it over a log I could see(one end was sticking out of the water) and as soon as it cleared the log, I felt a light 'tap' and set the hook on a 5.3lb Bass.
Kept drifting and throwing the s/b. Missed at least 3 hits with the bait on a GY rod, one right at the boat so I retied the s/b on one of my better rods and added a trailer hook. Kept throwing it with no more hits. Threw the t/w again--nada.
I was around some pads close to the gittin' out spot when I felt the s/b get 'heavy'. Dragged a 3lber out from the pads. Then rain drops started fallin' and I went straight to the truck.
