Postby rico » 11/11/04 10:11am

I'm new to the site. I purchased my first He70mc rod which I really like.I know that you guys know a lot about the rods and I need some advice on what paticular rods to get when fishing these things :

jig
Jerkbait
tubes
spinnder baits
top water
senkos

I'm looking to purchase 4 to 5 new rods. any help is appreciated if you have links to the rods thats even better. thanks in advance

Rico,

One can get overly picky with which rod to use when and where. I will try and make it simple with my suggestions below:

Jig - He70HC
http://www.kistlerrods.com/Merchant2/me ... ode=HE70HC

Jerkbait and Topwaters- He66MC
http://www.kistlerrods.com/Merchant2/me ... ode=HE66MC

Tubes - He69HC
http://www.kistlerrods.com/Merchant2/me ... =HE69HCbes - He69HC

Spinnerbaits - He69APC
http://www.kistlerrods.com/Merchant2/me ... de=HE69APC

Senkos - He70MHC

I hope this helps. If you need more detailed information, feel free to call us anytime and we will walk you through each rod choice.

Here is what I recommend for LI waters and most in the Tri State area:

Spinnerbaits/Cranks- He70MC

Tubes--He66MS

Jigs-He70MHC

Plastics-Casting-He66MC
spinning- He66MS

Light stuff-He66MLS

I use three HE70MCs for all techniques you referrred to except pitching a jig and I use my HE76HC or my HE76XHC for that.

I am a firm believer in keeping my rods as similar as I can and I truly believe that Kistler's HE70MC is their best all-round rod. It's the best(IMO) for all(except heavy baits like swimbaits) treble hook baits as well as single hook baits as in soft-plastics, buzzbaits, and spinnerbaits. Now having said that, I have not used any of their APC rods.

rods

I am in love with my 69apc i would suggest making sure you get on of those for spinnerbaits/rattletraps and if you throw the 100 pointer or other big jerkbaits it fits them real nicely. You will not be disappointed except for : the fact you will have to keep buying them bc they are addicting :D

How different is the action of a 69apc and a 70MHC?

Also, Sol or Fuego for a 70MC?

I know I will hear alot about Alphas but 1) Have to save for my next helium  2) Affraid of service problems with Japanese version reels. :?

Btw, I have a 70MC...should my next rod be a 70MHC or a 70HC? If it helps I mainly fish southern california lakes on a pontoon boat.

I am another broke angler who is trying to maximize what he buys.

Unless you're going to be pitching a jig or throwing some swimbaits, I'd get another HE70MC. That model Helium just covers so many techniques IMO.

Hey Dan,

which reel would you recommend for the 70MC? Sol or Fuego?

Sonny: Thanks for the compliment implied in asking but I'm the wrong guy to ask about them. I've never held much less, used one but here is a [url:( - - blocked - - )]http://www.tackletour.com/reviewDaiwat2005preview.html[/url:( - - blocked - - )] review of them.

Hopefully, sdesign/CAL will see your question. He is my "go to" Reel-Man :D and he has some experience with one or both I think.
