Fishing Rods

I am just starting to use a baitcaster. I currently have 2, an old, old Ambasaduer 6000, which I've only been salmon trolling with and a brand new Revo STX which I have no rod for yet. I will most likely be targeting walleye with small crankbaits (3/16oz or maybe even 5/16oz) and bass (most likely less than 5 pounders) with something like a Rage Tail bait or similar crank baits. What kind of rod shoud I be looking for? Action, tip, length? Thanks.

I would stick with any of our rods that have the power rating of Medium-Light, such as the He70MLC. The slower, softer tip will help cast the lightest of baits better than a stronger, stiffer, faster action rod. For the lightweight lures you mentioned, 3/16-5/16ths, I would recommend sticking with spinning reels.

The baitcasters do their best work on heavier crankbaits, jigs with trailers, and rigs with heavier weights, like 1/2oz and up.

Casting a light lure into the wind with a baitcaster will surely lead to an evil, disheartening, backlash, which will then get you frustrated with baitcasters.

Just my 2 cents, and as mentioned a longer rod, with a lot of whip in the tip, will launch the light stuff quite far.
