Fishing Rods

Just wondering what guys are using for line these days for certain application. Including brand and lb test.
flipping/pitching: trilene fluoro 17# and power pro 65#

tx rig ( weedline fishing or light cover) 12# seaguar fluoro

dropshot: 6# triplefish or 8# berkley fluoro


carolina rig (main line and leader): 65# power pro w/ 12-15# triple fish fluoro leader


spinnerbaits: 15# triplefish copolymer

crankbaits: 10# triplefish copolymer

topwater: 12-15# triplefish or gamma copolymer.


the reason why im asking, i have line left from last year. thats why you see the hodge podge of different lines up there. im looking to stick with one but having problems deciding and i wanted to see what works for others.

I like Mono for amost every application. For grass work I'll go with 50 or 65# power pro. I don't like Fluoro unless the water clearity calls for it of I have to have my line sink. Spinnerbaits are on 15# mono, crankbaits 10-15#, Flipping heavier cover 20#, and texas rig 15#. My brand of choice is Berkley Big Game. Great abbrasion resistance and knot strength. I find fluoro just doesn't hold up as well in the cover I fish. Hope this helps.

The size line I used is dictated by what lake I am going to be fishing. Alot of lakes I fish are full of wood, rocks, and matted grass. Then again some of the lakes I fish have very little cover so I use smaller test. I always use McCoys Mean Green Co-Polymer. For the most part I use 10-12 pound for cranks, and most topwaters. I use 15-17 on spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, and some plastics. If I fish heavy cover I use McCoys Super Spectra Braid in 65 pound test.

I recently switched to Toray lines from Japan, imported by Blackwater. When I found out that Toray line is the number one selling line in Japan it made me want to try it for myself. The fluorocarbon is by far the best I've used. 5 and 6 pound test for finesse, 10 pound for crankin, 14 for Senkos and big worms, 20 for clear water flippin. The Toray nylon is also a very good line. 8 and 10 pound for jerk baits, 16 and 20 for swimbaits. I also heard that Blackwater Toray is also going to release a premium 9 straind braid in the next few months. I'm sure it will also be a great product for punchin, tossing top water baits and frogs.

The best line I have found is World Wide Sportsman ( - - blocked - - ) line. They sell it at BPS. I use 17 on everything except my jigs. I usually go up to 20 or 25.
On my dropshot rods I will only use 12 lbs. Seagar Florocarbon.
