DESPERATELY SEEKING a KISTLER LTA for my NEEDS!!!

Postby CapeCodBass18 » 3/17/08 10:47am

I am desperately looking for a Kistler LTA that will suit the techniques I'm trying to use it for. I really want an LTA or possibly an LTX but it just seems that all Kistlers rated under MH are moderate-fast. I finally found the He70MC and it says it is a fast action rod. Would this rod be well suited for light T-rigs around lighter cover, finesse jigs like eakins, split shot rigs, etc. I want a rod that is on the lighter action side but I prefer a fast tip for these techniques. I dont want a soft tip. Would the He70MC satisfy ME???

LTA

I use the LTA 6'9" for much of what you described. It works very well. The 7M was a little parabolic (soft) to me, I found I was missing some hooksets. Alot will depend on your line but using Fluorocarbon I really recommend the HE 69 LTA.

LTA

Thanx for the reply Slide_R. The 6'9" is a MH rod though, correct? I am really looking for something rated to 5/8oz and preferably 7' with a truly fast action (but i'd settle for a 6'9"-6'10"). From the looks of it Kistler does not offer a rod that falls into this category. I throw a lot of smaller jigs and light texas rigs. I fish ultra-clear deeper lakes in MA and I really just find that with most MH rods rated to 3/4 and up I dont feel the same sensitivity w/ these baits as I can feel w/ a lighter powered rod. I am trying to really re-vamp my rod collection for this year's tournaments and I want 3 or 4 new rods and really want a Kistler LTA. I am going back and forth between Kistler and Powell and finally settled on LTA's but they dont seem to offer this one rod I am needing. It seems very odd to me that Kistler does not offer a medium action rod w/ a fast or extra fast action in any of their series...Is there any reason for this?

Might look at the TS

I can't speak about the LTX's, nor a Powell rod and Kistler1 or others will have to chime in on specifics about a particular blank.

My experience is that the blanks Kistler uses may not fall into certain rod categories but once you fish them you will see a positive performance difference. That 6'9" LTA rates as "special" in my books. Maybe the most versatile rod I own and very much my goto stick.

Yesterday I was throwing a Lake Fork Tackle "Live" Magic Shad on a 1/16 oz LFT weighted hook and nailed a nice 5+ from a local pond. The week before I used it throw 1/8 oz weight on 8" worms in a tournament on Ray Hubbard. At the Hubbard tournament I was throwing around a bunch of rock rip-rap. I can feel every little rock crevice and keep from being hung all the time and when it feels different, I can set the hook and move the fish out to open water.

This might be another option that specs out closer to what you are looking for.

Magnesium Senko Worm Special 7' Medium Heavy Fishing Rod

Real close to the LTA in performance.

i like fishing exactly the way you are talking about. i like flipping 3/16 to 7/16 jigs on 8lb. line and tubes and light texas rigs on 12lb. the 7'6" MH helium is PERFECT. it is not as stiff as the 7' MH and has a fast tip, but not too fast and stiff as to break light line. it is rated for 12 lb line, but i have not broken any 8lb gamma edge yet! just loosen your drag a little. it has a perfect tip for accurate pitches and short casts and skipping. it also has a nice action for hooksets.

LTA

Slide_R and Ben thanx for the prompt replies. Slide_R especially you are really helping to answer my questions. I have checked out the MAG TS senko rod but I really want a higher end rod like the LTA or LTX. The rod that I am looking for is going to be my go-to rod as I am most often pitching light t-rigs and jigs and fishing "low and slow" as I fish ultra-clear pressured waters for the most part. If the sensitivity is really as good as everyone says then I am sure I will be able to achieve the feel im looking for w/ my 1/4-3/8oz jigs and 1/8-1/4oz. t-rigs. I really would like to hear from Kistlero or Kistler1 on this subject or anyone w/ more specific blank knowledge. I really would like to know why Kistler does not seem to offer a Medium power (rated 5/8oz or lower) that has a fast or extra-fast action? I have no found any other company that does not offer a med power w/ a fast action. There must be a reason for this possibly the incredible sensitivity of these rods or something...??? THanx in Advance. I really CANT WAIT to order my kistlers so please anyone who can help let me know!!! Also, can you do overnight or 2-day shipping direct from Kistler website? I need my rods fast.

being late

hi guys,
sorry to jump later on discussion but capecod find the proper action on his own.
in fact i had more than one chance to see the new 2008 LTA Medium power but with fast action and those are simply AWESOME for me for lite trigs or small jigs up to 3/8 max, well suited for jerkbaits or heavy topwater but i do use them, or gonna use them, for small cranking and 1/4 spinnerbaiting.
this new action is a step forward among competition, the medium powered 2008 lta are the best improvement on this line or rods.
then all lenghts seem to offer same performance, just different lenghts so is better you figure out which is best for you.
for me i never fish with short rods so at least 69.
