Jigging for Pike

Postby Stringo71 » 3/13/08 4:57pm

I have caught hundreds of Pike casting and trolling, but never jigging. I recently purchased jigs and plastics of all sizes and colors for my new Kistler. I'd welcome any tip and tactics for jigging in general or specifically spring Pike in the shallows.

Jigging Pike

Postby Mission Fishin' » 4/13/08 9:02pm

Jigs are candy to big bad pike. I do like a black kicking frog pork trailer on a 5/8oz. black/blue jig. When pike leave the shallows after spawning, look for that next secondary break and work that area hard. If weeds are associated with that break you have found a likely area. Good luck jigging. I find the 7'8" All day flipping & pitching rod the absolute best for this technique. Capt. GJ Longley
