Fishing Rods

Looking for a 7' Rod to handle 3/8 to 1oz crank baits and jerk baits. Ripping jerk baits and cranks to 15' or so. Wanted to keep that slower action that the glass composite offers but would prefer the sensitivity and all that the Helium brings to the table. I see some suggesting the med heavy LTA or even the heavy LTA for bigger cranks but that seems a bit stout for a crank bait rod. 18ft boat makes 7' about as long as I want to go.

If you want a 7' rod in the LTA I would go with the HE70MC. This rod is a medium action rod, and great for crankbaits, and would also be pretty good for rouges. The HE70MHC is also something to consider depending on the weight, depth of the crankbaits you throw. This rod has a little more backbone, and is better for deep diving crankbaits, and ripping crankbaits, traps through the grass.

That is easy. Go with a He70MLC because it has the action of glass but a little more rigid backbone and much more sensitivity than any rod power we make. The 2008 He70MC will be ok, but if you want to match the glass feel, then stick to our ML powers.

Here I was ready to go with the medium or maybe the med heavy and you tell me to go med light! Let me be a little more direct. I was trying to match a Loomis CBR845 for this application. My reference to glass was just to make sure I would have a rod that was slow enough not to take the trebles from the fish. Would you still stay with your recommendation?

I bought a HE69MHC earlier and while I haven't been able to get out yet (INDIANA) I sure can tell I'm going to like the one I'm holding. I can also tell I'm going to enjoy supporting your company, it feels just like Basscat. And I mean that as a high compliment.

Then you might step up to the Med if you are used to the 845. Give Ryan a call here at the office and he will explain all the rods actions and powers to help you better decide. That's the best route to take in my opinion just to be sure.

I use the He70MHC for all my crankbait fishing.

The Loomis 845 is a little stiffer than the light action LTA. The Med is pretty close to the 845.
